Blue Sox, Bulldogs & Reds Take Sunday Wins
The Lexington Blue Sox got six strong innings from Tony Annino (pictured) to beat the Merchants in Wakefield 7-2. Annino (1-0) who struck out seven and allowed six hits, got offensive support from Richie Burgos (3 hits, 2 RBI), Aaron Barbosa (3 hits, RBI) and Thomas Russo and Gary Goolsby who had two hits each. Dillon Koster and Paul McGonigle each had RBI singles for the Merchants. Mike Andrews (1-1) took the loss.
At Endicott, the Reading Bulldogs needed nine innings to walk off with a 4-3 over the visiting Somerville Royals. Jack Theriault (1-0) got the win allowing just one hit in three innings in relief of Alex Mandrus. Joey Hodapp and Jonathan Rodriguez had two hits each and Jeff Roy added a triple for Reading. Ryan Noone had three of the Royals’ six hits and Nick Valdario had two RBI’s.
In Watertown, the Reds moved to 4-1 on the season with a 5-2 win over the Melrose Americans. Worth Walrod (2-0) went six innings to get the win while Pat Maher chalked up the save. Kyle LaVigne, Logan Gillis, Blake Miller, Blaise Cormier and Ben Johnson had RBI’s for the Reds. Charlie Huegi had two of the Americans’ seven hits. Jamie Weiss (0-1) took the loss.
The Americans visit the Chiefs at Maplewood and the Bulldogs host the Merchants at Endicott on Monday night. Both games start at 8:00 PM.
