Xirinachs Throws 12K 1-Hitter for Merchants, Chiefs Beat Reds 3-1

Steve Xirinachs (1-1)  threw a one-hitter, striking out a dozen, when the Wakefield Merchants shutout the Arlington Trojans 1-0 at Walsh Field on Wednesday. Mike Sorrentino drove in Bobby Losanno with the only run of the game with a third inning single.

At Maplewood, Jared Freni threw a seven strikeout three-hitter, out dueling Dante Padovani, when the Andre Chiefs beat the Watertown Reds 3-1. Johnny Welch drove in two of the Chiefs runs with a first inning homer. Tony Serino drove in the other run with a RBI single. Will Brennan had two of the Reds hits .
