Blue Sox Beat Middlesex in Lone Friday ICL Game

June 19, 2021/in News and Notes/by iclbaseball

Lexington won its fifth straight and snapped the first-place Middlesex Expos six game win streak with a 6-2 win Friday night at Trum Field in Somerville. It was the only ICL game on the schedule.

The Blue Sox, 5-1, took a quick 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Brendan Jones and Julian Alvarez both walked, Ryan Cervone singled driving in Jones, and Alex Voitik doubled in Alvarez.

Lexington stretched its lead went to 3-0 in the fifth when Alvarez drew another walk and Cervone hit a long triple to center.

Pat McGowan, 2-0, started for Lexington and pitched five scoreless inning while striking out 10. He stranded six Expos, including three at third and one at second to keep Middlesex off the scoreboard.

Lexington extended the lead to 6-0 and put the game away in the top of the seventh on a Gage Gaunt two RBI double.

Middlesex, 6-2, added two runs in the bottom of the seventh to avoid the shutout. Dane Lebbert walked and came home on Jose Paulino’s double. Paulino took third on the throw home and then scored on an infield out.

The Lexington win moved the Blue Sox (10) to within two points of Middlesex (12).

There are no ICL games scheduled on Saturday.
