August 2, 2019/in News and Notes/by iclbaseball

The Lexington Blue Sox moved to 19-4-1, and clinched at least a share of first place, in a 5-2 win over the Andre Chiefs at Maplewood. Junior Pena (2-0) picked up the win allowing five hits and striking out eight in five innings. Jake Vesling struck out four in two innings as the Blue Sox duo combined for a dozen K’s. Julian Alvarez went a perfect 4 for 4 with a double and an RBI and Morgan Brown added three hits and a couple of RBI’s. Tony Serino had three of the Chiefs’ nine hits. Tim Dunphy (3-3) allowed only one earned run in five innings but took the loss.

Blaise Cormier had three RBI’s, and Graham Smith and John Collette had two hits each, when the Somerville Royals walked off with a 4-3 win over the Malden Maddogs in a game that was played at Lexington High. Jonathan Richard (2-5) got the win with two innings of work in relief of starter Cal Carroll. Malden’s Logan Gillis (0-1) was tagged with the loss.
