Leenhouts 1-Hitter, Dunphy 4-Hitter, Reading Walk-off, Key Monday Action

July 11, 2017/in News and Notes/by iclbaseball

Drew Leenhouts came within one out of a no-hitter when the Lexington Blue Sox shutout the Melrose Americans 3-0 at Morelli Field. John Jennings’ double in the bottom of the seventh broke up the no-hit bid. Jake Willsey and Dorian Rojas had RBI singles for the Blue Sox. Leenhouts (1-0) struck out seven.

At Maplewood, Tim Dunphy (2-0) spun a four-hitter, outdueling Mike Andrews (0-3), as the Andre Chiefs edged the Arlington Trojans 2-1. Hits from Mike Andre and Nate Witkowski gave the Chiefs the lead in the fifth inning. Jeff Besozzi’s single drove in Kyle Bourdrias (double) with the Arlington run in top of the fourth.

The Reading Bulldogs scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to walk off with a 3-2 win over the Wakefield Merchants at Endicott College. Chris Bosco had three hits, and Kevin Marciano, Corey DiLoreto, and Darren Hartwell, had two each for the Bulldogs. Bobby Losanno had a solo homer for the Merchants. Jack Theriault (3-2) picked up the win in relief of Alex Mandrus.

The Chiefs visit the Somerville Royals at Trum Field starting at 8:15 PM in the only ICL contest that is scheduled for Tuesday.
