Merchants, Alibrandis & Blue Sox in Tuesday Win Column

July 10, 2019/in News and Notes/by iclbaseball

Joseph Maguire picked up his fourth win of the season when the Wakefield Merchants held on to beat the Bulldogs 5-4 at Morton Field in Reading. Kevin Lucey led the Merchants with a double and three RBI’s and Jon Luders scored three runs and added two hits. Tyler Cedeno went a perfect three for three with a double for the Bulldogs. Maguire (4-1) struck out five in getting the complete game victory. Anthony Sapienza (0-2) took the loss.

Ryan Corriveau also hit the four win plateau, combining with Nate Beck on a two-hitter, in Alibrandis 3-1 win over the Melrose Americans at Victory Field. Corriveau (4-1) and Beck, who recorded the save in the seventh inning, had seven strikeouts. Ian Libby reached base three times for the Americans with a double and two walks, Ronnie Luke (2-2) worked 3.2 innings and was tagged with the loss.

The Lexington Blue Sox exploded for a dozen runs in the first three innings, and 19 total hits, on the way to a 12-2 win over the Maddogs in Malden. Former Harvard standout Morgan Brown had three hits and four RBI’s to pace the Lexington attack. Pat McGowan (1-0) picked up the win and combined with Nick Harper and Eddie Campbell to limit the Maddogs to five hits. Derek Bauer hit his second homer of the year for the Maddogs in the sixth inning.

The Andre Chiefs-Somerville Royals game that was scheduled for Trum Field was postponed due to a conflict with a BRL tournament. The game has been rescheduled for July 31.

Three ICL games are on the Wednesday evening agenda. The Merchants host the Blue Sox at Walsh Field in Wakefield at 6:00 PM, Alibrandis and the Royals hook up at Victory Field in Watertown at 7:45 PM, and the Chiefs host the Maddogs at Maplewood/Malden Catholic at 8:00 PM.
