Merchants Edge Royals in 8th, Sox-Reds Tie, Annual ICL Raffle is Tonight in Woburn
The Wakefield Merchants scored a run in the top of the eighth to take a 7-6 extra inning win over the Somerville Royals at Trum Field. Bobby Losanno, Mike Sorrentino, Mark Webber, Chris Butler and Vin Nardone, all had two hits each for the Merchants. George Crowley and Luke Ronchi both had a couple of hits and two RBI’s each for the Royals. Spencer Meyer (1-1) picked up the win in relief of Joseph Maguire.
In Watertown, the Lexington Blue Sox and the Reds played to a 1-1 tie. The game was halted after 8 1/2 innings due to a curfew. Bill Sullivan went the distance for the Reds and allowed eight hits while striking out nine. The Blue Sox trio of Ryan Filipowoicz, Rob DeFranco, and Jeff Blount, surrendered only five hits and struck out seven. Chris Lanzilli gave the Reds a 1-0 fourth inning lead when he plated Will Brennan (single) with a fielder’s choice. The Blue Sox tied the game in the top of the fifth on singles from Thomas Russo, Jeff Costello, and Aaron Barbosa.
There are no ICL games on the Friday schedule due to the annual Raffle/Chinese Food Buffet that will take place at the Woburn Sons of Italy starting at 6:00 PM.
