Solomon & Boyle Power Bulldogs to 17-7 Win, Expos Beat Maddogs 4-1
Patrick Solomon had a homer and five RBI’s and Ryan Boyle homered and drove in three runs to lead the Reading Bulldogs to a 17-7 win over the Melrose Americans at Lexington High. Cole Velis (3-2) struck out six in four innings to grab the win. Jackson Stanton hit a solo homer and Cory Bright, with a double and single, had two RBI’s for the Americans. Matt Josselyn (1-2) got the win and David Kerns picked up a three inning save when the Middlesex Expos knocked off the Malden Maddogs 4-1 at Maplewood. Leon Paulino hit his first homer of the season for the Expos. Jack McLaughlin (0-2) took the loss. The ICL now heads into its annual Fourth of July break. League play will resume next Tuesday, July 6.
Americans Beat Blue Sox and Chiefs Handle Maddogs in 5-1 Scores
Chris Mitchell (3-0) fired six innings of one-hit ball to lead the Melrose Americans to a 5-1 win over the Lexington Blue Sox at Morelli Field. Nick Giangregorio had two hits, including a homer, leadoff man Pat Costigan had a double among his three hits, Noah Jankowski (RBI, double) recorded two hits, and John Jennings banged out two hits and a RBI, to lead the Americans’ 11 hit offense. Ernie Little drove home the Lexington run. Mitchell struck out six. Ryan O’Rourke (0-1) took the loss. At Maplewood, Cal Carroll (1-2) and Jonathan Chotkowski combined on a three-hitter when the Andre Chiefs defeated the Malden Maddogs 5-1. Carroll went three innings while Chotkowski worked the final four frames. Chris Klein (2 RBI) and John Baptista both had triples, Juan Parra added a double and RBI, and Ryan Noone two hits to pace the Chiefs. Matt Tyman (0-3) suffered the loss for the Maddogs. On Thursday, the Americans visit the Reading Bulldogs at Lexington High at 7:00 PM and Maddogs host the Middlesex Expos at Maplewood at 8:00 PM.
Expos Beat Maddogs 7-2
Roland Mendez (1-0) and Junior Montero combined on a four hitter when the Middlesex Expos beat the Malden Maddogs 7-2 on Tuesday Night at Maplewood in the only ICL game played. Mike Golankiewicz had a homer for the Expos. Rob Carrillo (2-2) took the loss. On Wednesday, the Melrose Americans host the Lexington Blue Sox at Morelli Field at 7:30 PM and the Maddogs tangle with the Andre Chiefs at Maplewood at 8:00 PM.
Chiefs-Americans Deadlock, Bulldogs Walk in Off in 8th, Monday’s ICL Slate Washed Out
The Andre Chiefs and Melrose Americans played to the ICL’s first tie of the season in a nine-inning 3-3 deadlock at Morelli Field on Sunday afternoon. The two teams used seven pitchers in the game. Christian Rosati (5.1 inn), Paul Frisoli (1.2 inn), and A.J. Rourke (2 inn) worked for the Chiefs while Ryan Joyce (4.1 inn), Christian Loescher (0.2 inn), Nick Colucci (1 inn), and Bobby Tramondozzi (3 inn) pitched for the Americans. Andrew Caulfield, with two hits including a double and RBI, and Ryan Noone, who had two hits and a couple of RBI’s led the Chiefs. Aidan Barry hit a two run homer, Corey Bright had a double and single, and Gianni Zarrilli drove in a run for the Americans. In Lexington, the first place Reading Bulldogs edged the Malden Maddogs 6-5 in an eight inning back and forth walk-off affair. The Maddogs broke a 2-2 tie to take a 3-2 lead with a run in the top of the seventh. The Bulldogs came right back to knot the game at three all in the home half of the inning. The Maddogs retook the lead, scoring twice for a 5-3 advantage heading for the home half of the eighth before the Bulldogs put up a three spot to walk away with the dramatic win. Todd Stawiecki hit a two run homer to tie the game up at 5-5 for the winners before hits from Andrew Croteau and Dylan Arnold, driving home Max Garner with game winner, gave Reading the win. Joe Cacciatore had three hits for the Bulldogs while Conor Hanlon recorded two doubles and drove in a run for the Maddogs. Both the Lexington Blue Sox vs. Chiefs at Maplewood and the Middlesex Expos-Americans at Brandeis University games scheduled for Monday have been rained out.
