Royals Win, Smeglin Tosses Shutout for Americans

Jake Cintolo had three hits and Luke Rochi two RBI’s when the Somerville Royals beat the Malden Maddogs 7-5 at Maplewood. Jonathan Richard (2-2) went the distance to get the win. Shawn Smeglin (pictured) tossed a complete game five hitter, striking out six, as the Americans made four first inning runs stand in a 4-0 win over Alibrandis at Ferullo Field. Chris Hopkins, Dave Center, Kyle Cortese, and Charlie Huegi had the RBI’s in the Americans’ first at bat.

Americans, Merchants & Reds Win, Royals-Alibrandis Play to 3-3 Tie

John Jennings (pictured) hit a walkoff home run in bottom of the 7th inning to give the Melrose Americans a 2-1 win over the Lexington Blue Sox at Morelli.  The Americans tied the game in the sixth on Will Shackleford’s RBI single, scoring Dan Cacciola. Lexington took a 1-0 lead in the first on an RBI single by Julian Alvarez that brought in Thomas Russo, who had doubled.  Kyle Autillo pitched seven strong innings, scattering eight hits and striking out two to get the win. Ryan Collins had three hits and Dillon Koster and Paul McGunigle had two RBI’s each to lead the Wakefield Merchants past the Malden Maddogs at Walsh. Joseph Maguire (3-0) went four innings in relief to pick up his third straight win of the season. At Maplewood, the Watertown Reds broke open a close game, scoring six runs in the top of the seventh to send the Andre Chiefs down to their fourth straight defeat 11-4. Worth Walrod (3-0) went six innings to get the win while Jared Freni (3-1) took the loss. The Somerville Royals and Alibrandis played to a 3-3 nine inning tie at Trum Field. Thursday’s Reading vs. Alibrandis game, that was scheduled in Lexington, has been postponed due a field conflict.

Maddogs, Blue Sox & Reds Take Tuesday Wins

Kennedy Wilson’s bases loaded double in the first inning proved to be enough when the Maddogs beat the Andre Chiefs 3-1 in Malden. Blaine McLean (1-0) picked up the win and Ricky Alexy got the save. Josh Desai (0-1) and Tim Dunphy faced the minimum 17 batters over the last 5.2 innings despite taking the loss. Leivi Ventura hit his second homer of the year for the Chiefs. Taylor Ferguson went 4-for-4 with 3 RBI and two runs scored to pace the Lexington Blue Sox to an 8-3 win over the Somerville Royals at Trum Field. Richie Burgos hit his second home run in as many nights and had three hits. Julian Alvarez (2 RBI) and Derlin Tejada each added two hits for the Blue Sox. Matt Karis (1-0) pitched five innings for his first win of 2018. He struck out six and scattered six hits. Rob Caggiano had a solo homer for Somerville and Nick Valdoro and Andrew Ashworth each had an RBI single. Mike Samko had three hits, that included two doubles, and four RBI’s to lead the Watertown Reds over the Wakefield Merchants 8-4 at Bentley University. Matt Horan (4-0) stayed perfect on the year going the distance and striking out nine. Dillon Koster had three of the Merchants’ seven hits. On Wednesday, the Merchants host the Maddogs in Wakefield at 6:00 PM, the Blue Sox visit the Americans at Morelli at 7:30 PM, the Chiefs and Reds meet at Maplewood at 8:00 PM, and Alibrandis and the Royals battle at Trum Field in Somerville at 8:15 PM.

Blue Sox Win 9-7, Other ICL Games Suspended or PPD on Monday

Richie Burgos had two hits, scored three runs, and added four RBI’s, that included his first home run of the year, to lead the Lexington Blue Sox to a 9-7 victory over the Andre Chiefs in a rain delayed game at Maplewood. The Blue Sox received 12 walks and a hit batsman with eight of them either scoring or driving in a run. Ben Waldrip had two solo homers and Johnny Welch and Juan Portes also had home runs for the Chiefs. Drew Leenhouts (2-1) picked up the win while Evan Walsh (0-1) took the loss. The Wakefield Merchants-Albrandis game in Lexington was suspended due to rain in the third inning with no score. The Reading Bulldogs at Melrose Americans game, scheduled for Morelli Field, was rained out. On Tuesday, the Merchants visit the Watertown Reds at Bentley University at 6:00 PM and the Malden Bulldogs will meet the Chiefs at Maplewood in a 7:45 PM start.
