Blue Sox and Bulldogs Grab Tuesday Wins

Chiefs, Americans, Reds, & Bulldogs, Gain Sunday Wins

Joe Saia (1-0) went the distance, picking up his first ICL win, and Matt Nuzzo had a four for five afternoon with two doubles and four RBI, when the Chiefs handed the Merchants a 14-5 loss in Wakefield. Johnny Welch (3-5, 2 RBI’s), Shane Stande (2-3, 2 RBI’s), Nate Witkowski (2-4, 2 RBI’s), Mike Burgoyne (2-4, 2 RBI’s) and Mike Barbati (2-4) led the Chiefs 16 hit offense. Anthony Cecere had two RBI’s for the Merchants. In Melrose, the Americans scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a come from behind 6-4 win over the Arlington Trojans at Morelli Field. Nick Herzog had a huge day at the plate for the Americans going 3-4 with a homer, a double, and four RBI’s. Malcolm Nachmanoff backed Herzog’s effort with a 3-4 day of his own that included a double and an RBI. Aran Hamilton-Grenham (1-0) picked up the win with 1.2 innings of relief. Jonathan Bishop (1-0) picked up his first win of the season, going five innings and scattering eight hits, to lead the Reds to a 3-0 blanking of the Somerville Royals in Watertown. Will Brennan, Dan Chaisson, and Kevin Kelley, drove in the runs for the Reds. Kyle LaVigne had a 2-2 day at the plate and scored two runs. Sean Mahan recorded the two inning save. The Reading Bulldogs scored three times in the bottom of the sixth inning, erasing a 4-3 Lexington lead, to beat the Blue Sox 6-4 at Endicott College. Mike DeDonato led the Bulldogs with a 2-4 evening that included a homer and three RBI’s. Colby Morris (2-1) went six innings to pick up the win and Jack Theriault threw a hitless seventh to get the save.

SATURDAY, JULY 8 at Monan Field, Boston, MA GAME ONE: Cranberry League 8, Intercity League 7-  FINAL (Cranberry League overcomes a 7-0 deficit, scoring 3 runs in bottom of the 7th, to advance) GAME TWO: Yawkey League 5, Boston Park League 0 (8 innings) – FINAL (Yawkey League scores 5 runs in the top of the 8th inning to advance to championship game) CHAMPIONSHIP: Yawkey League 4, Cranberry League 3 – FINAL (Yawkey League wins Eastern Mass. All-Star Classic, Juan Parra, Somerville Alibrandis MVP)

Information on Video Broadcast of Saturday’s EMass All-Star Classic

Saturday’s Eastern Mass. All-Star Classic will broadcast by Local Sports Productions live from Monan Field in Boston. The broadcast will begin at 12:55 PM. The ICL will meet the Cranberry League at 1:00 PM with the Yawkey League and Boston Park League playing at 4:00 PM. The winners of the first two games will meet for the championship at 7:30 PM. Merchants’ Maguire throws 2-Hitter, Desai K’s 14 for Chiefs, Bulldogs Win

Joseph Maguire (1-1)  tossed a two-hit shutout, striking out nine, when the Wakefield Merchants shutout the Americans 4-0 in Melrose. Scott Searles (2-4, double), Bobby Losano, Mark Webber and Vin Nardone, knocked in the Wakefield runs. In Somerville, lefty Josh Desai (2-0) struck out 14 batters to lead the Andre Chiefs to a 6-2 win over the Royals at Trum Field. Matt Nuzzo and Mike Burgoyne each had two hits and an RBI for the Chiefs. Wagner Gomez had a couple of hits and knocked in a run for the Royals. The Reading Bulldogs got two hits each from Corey DiLoreto, Chris Bosco, Steve Busby, and Chris Seidl to edge the Watertown Reds 7-6 at Victory Field. Jack Theriault (2-2) picked up the win with 2.2 innings of relief.
