INTERCITY LEAGUE NEWS & NOTES
Melrose at Lexington is suspended due to darkness
It was the night the lights went out in Lexington. Power outages had been happening all day in Lexington as the hottest day of the year put a strain on the power grid. The lights went out 2 – 3 times before the game started. Darkness took over at least four more times, including the one that caused the game to be called. The game was finally stopped in the bottom of the third with two outs and a Lexington runner on first at 8:47 pm. Fortunately for both teams, the lights never went out during a play or pitch, but always in between plays or innings. The outages lasted between 30 – 60 seconds. Lexington had struck first scoring a run in the bottom of the second. AJ Lysko led off the inning with a single. He moved to third on two infield outs and then scored on a wild pitch. Melrose’s Owen Duggan started the third with a leadoff double. The next batter Ryan Bourgeois singled to right and quickly knotted the score at 1-1. As of press time no date has been set for the game to finish.
