Lundgren Fires 1-Hitter for Reading, Merchants-Sox in 3-3 Rain Shortened Tie
Wayne Lundgren (2-1) fired a complete game one-hitter to lead the Reading Bulldogs to a 4-1 over the Trojans in Arlington on Friday. Jordan Roper led the Bulldogs’ offense with two hits, including a triple, and a couple of RBI. Lundgren struck out five and didn’t walk a batter. Mike DeDonato and Kyle Devin drove in the other Reading runs. Richie Cardillo took the loss for Arlington. In Lexington, the Wakefield Merchants scored three times in the top of the sixth inning, to tie the game at 3-3, before the rains came and the teams played to a weather shortened deadlock. Mike Sorrentino had three hits, scored a run, and had an RBI for Wakefield. Justin Silvestro (2 hits) had an RBI triple for the Blue Sox in the fourth inning. The ICL begins its annual Fourth of July Break today. League play will resume next Wednesday, July 6th.
Americans & Reds Both Post Comeback Wins on Wednesday
Dillon Corliss tossed six innings of four-hit ball to record the win, and Zack Kirby struck out the side in the seventh to chalk up the save, when the Americans came from behind to beat the Chiefs 4-1 on Wednesday in Melrose. Austin Masel put the Americans in front 2-1 in the fifth with a two RBI single. Tom Petry padded the Melrose lead with an RBI single in the sixth. Mike Burgoyne gave the Chiefs a 1-0 lead with a solo homer in the third. Mitchell Clegg (2-1) took the loss. In Watertown, the Reds rallied from a 2-0 third inning deficit to overtake the Arlington Trojans 8-5 at Victory Field. More on this game will be posted shortly.
Rosati (9 K’s, 5-Hitter) and Berg Lead Americans to 5-2 Win at Trum
Christian Rosati threw a complete game five-hitter to lead the Melrose Americans to a 5-2 win over the Somerville Royals at Trum Field in the only ICL game played on Tuesday. Isaiah Berg had two hits, including a double and two RBI’s, and Tom Petry had a couple of singles to lead the Melrose offense. Rosati (2-1) struck out nine batters, allowed just one earned run, and walked only one in the route going win. Ryan Covelle (2-1) suffered his first loss of the year for Somerville. Three ICL games are on the Wednesday schedule. The Americans host the Chiefs at Morelli Field in Melrose at 7:30 PM, the Trojans and Reds battle at Victory Field in Watertown at 7:45 PM, and the Royals host the Bulldogs at Trum at 8:15 PM.
Walsh Saves it for Trojans, Kasten Shines for Chiefs
John Smokovich (2-1), Graham Stack, and Evan Walsh combined on the mound to pitch the Arlington Trojans to a 4-2 win over the Blue Sox in Lexington. Smokovich went five plus innings to get the win. Walsh, who took the mound in the 6th, recorded the save. Owen Shea and Ben Johnston each scored and drove in a run to lead the Trojans offense. Ross Curley and Justin Silvestro drove in the Lexington runs. At Maplewood, rookie righty Sam Kasten (1-1) struck out ten of the fifteen batters he faced in five innings out of the bullpen when the Chiefs beat the Reds 6-4. Kasten allowed only a fifth inning double to Justin Forman and struck out the side in order in both third and sixth innings. Peter Copa and Mike Burgoyne each had two hits and Mike Andre had a double for the Chiefs. Forman ended up with two hits and Will Brennan had a two RBI first inning double for the Reds. On Tuesday, the Somerville Royals host the Melrose Americans at Trum Field in Somerville at 8:15 PM in the only game on the ICL schedule.
