Blue Sox Sweep Bulldogs to Take 2025 Championship

Wednesday’s Recap of ICL Games
Wins by the Somerville Royals, Melrose Americans, Lexington Blue Sox, and Andre Chiefs highlighted Wednesday night’s full slate of four ICL games. In Wakefield, the Royals banged out 15 hits, led by Wagner Gomez who had a 3-3 evening with a homer and a couple of RBI’s, on the way to an 8-5 win. Rob Caggiano, Luke Ronchi, B.J. Neil, and Curtis Tirone each had two hits for Somerville. Wyatt Stanley (1-1) got the win. Austin Masel and Tom Petry had three hits apiece and Dave Center and Isiah Berg each homered when the Americans unleashed a 15 hit attack of their own in an 11-3 win over the Trojans at Morelli Field. Kyle Autilio (1-1) went six innings to record the win. The Lexington Blue Sox got five strong innings from Aidan Freeburg (3-1) and beat the Watertown Reds 4-1 at Victory Field. Alex Voitik hit his third homer of the season to pace the Blue Sox offense. Aric Dama (4-1) suffered his first loss of the season in a complete game effort. Chris Law picked up his third save of the year when working a scoreless seventh for the Blue Sox. At Maplewood, the Chiefs were down to their last out before a Nate Witkowski game tying single and a Mike Barbati game winning double gave them an 8-7 win over the Reading Bulldogs. The Chiefs erased Reading leads of 4-1, 5-3 and 7-6 to record the comeback win. Witkowski led the Chiefs with three hits, and Ryan Sonberg and Barbati each added two hits. Kyle Devin, Zac Talis, and E.J. Martinez, had two each for the Bulldogs. Mike DiCato (3-1) got the win for the Chiefs in relief of Anthony DeSouza.
Reds & Royals Gain Tuesday Night Wins
Bill Sullivan (3-0) allowed just four hits when the Watertown Reds came from behind to beat the Blue Sox 6-3 in Lexington. Will Brennan had four hits and Mike Samko two hits to lead the Watertown offense. Both Brennan and Samko each had a double in the Reds’ three run seventh inning. Taylor Ferguson drove in two of Lexington’s runs with a fourth inning single. In Somerville, the Royals rode the pitching of Chuck Gibson (1-2) and Cal Carroll on the way to knocking off the Andre Chiefs 3-1. Jake Cintolo went a perfect 3 for 3 at the plate, including a triple, for the Royals.
Lundgren Gets Win for Bulldogs, Chiefs Walk Off in the 9th
Wayne Lundgren (3-1) threw six innings of one-hit, six strikeout ball, and Cody Hall got the save, to lead the Reading Bulldogs to a 3-1 win over the Wakefield Merchants at Endicott College. Kyle Devin, with a solo homer, and Nick Berno, with an RBI single, led the way for the Bulldogs at the plate. Mike Sorrentino drove in Josh Band (triple) with the Merchants only run in the top of the seventh. At Maplewood, Nate Witkowski’s single with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning gave the Chiefs a 6-5 walk off win over the Americans. The Americans took a 5-1 lead in the game on an Isaiah Berg three run homer. Tim Dunphy (3-0-1) got the win with 6.1 innings of relief pitching. Two ICL games are scheduled on Tuesday. The Watertown Reds and Blue Sox battle in Lexington at 8:00 PM and the Chiefs visit the Somerville Royals at Trum Field in an 8:15 PM start.
Bulldogs Sweep, Blue Sox Win in 9th, Kirby 3-Hitter Wins for Americans
The Reading Bulldogs swept a doubleheader from the Somerville Royals 7-1 and 10-1 at Endicott College in Beverly on Sunday. Tim Woods (1-0) threw a complete game five-hitter in the opener. Zac Talis had four hits, including a double, and Nick Berno added three hits for Reading. George Crowley accounted for the only Royals’ run with a solo home run. In the nightcap, Anthony Dally (2-0) allowed just four hits in six innings to get the win. Kyle Devin led the way at the plate with three hits. In Arlington, the Lexington Blue Sox scored six times in the top of the ninth on the way to a 7-1 extra inning win over the Trojans. Alex Voitik had a two run triple and Jeff Blount pitched two innings of one-hit baseball to get the win. Zack Kirby (2-1) allowed just three hits and struck out ten when the Melrose Americans beat the Watertown Reds 4-2 at Victory Field. Austin Masel had a triple and two RBI’s for the Americans. Christian Rosati and Nick Herzog drove in the other Americans’ runs. There are two ICL games scheduled on Monday. The Bulldogs host the Wakefield Merchants at Endicott College at 8:00 PM and the Americans visit the Andre Chiefs at Maplewood/Malden Catholic at 8:15 PM.
