Chiefs Get Wednesday Win as ICL Heads to Fourth of July Break

Maddogs Take 3rd Straight, Americans Win 9-3

Sam Browning went 3-3, including a double and triple, and knocked in two runs to lead the Malden Maddogs to a 7-3 win over the Blue Sox on Friday night in Lexington. For the Maddogs it was their third straight win after starting the season 0-10. Damien Brown scored twice and Ben Croteau added two RBI’s for the Maddogs. Ryan Rametta pitched four innings for the win. He scattered seven hits, allowed two runs and had four K’s.. Anthony Panza worked the final three innings to record  his first save. Joe Auger and Austin Masel each had a couple of hits and scored a run for the Blue Sox. At Morelli Field, the heart of of the Melrose Americans’ order, consisting of Corey Bright (3-4, 3 R’s, RBI), John Jennings (2-4, 2 R’s, RBI) and Aidan Barry (2-3, double, 1 R, 3 RBI’s) went a combined 7 for 11 to lead them to a 9-3 win over the Lexington Bulldogs. Greg Johnson (1-1) threw 2.1 innings of scoreless ball, in relief of starter Will Gindel (4.2 innings, 7 K’s), to grab his first win of the season. Drew Crowley (1-2) took the loss. There are no ICL games scheduled on Saturday. The Maddogs visit the Americans at 4:00 PM (Morelli Field) in Sunday’s only game.  

Maddogs Beat Americans 6-3, Bulldogs Edge Chiefs in 8th

Rich Carrillo got the win and Brian Pelrine picked up the save when the Malden Maddogs beat the Melrose Americans 6-3 on Thursday at Maplewood. The Maddogs scored all six suns in the bottom of the third inning. For Carrillo (2-4), he followed up his June 27th no-hitter against the Lexington Blue Sox by going six innings and striking out nine. In Lexington, Ryan Boyle’s single in the bottom of the eighth inning gave the Lexington Bulldogs a 10-9 extra inning win over the Andre Chiefs. On Friday, the Bulldogs visit the Americans at Morelli at 7:30 PM and the Blue Sox host the Maddogs in Lexington at 8:00 PM.  

Corliss Leads Blue Sox by Expos, Parra HR in 7th Rallies Chiefs Past Americans

The Lexington Blue Sox turned around a 3-0 first inning deficit and came away with a 6-5 win over the Sabertooth Expos on Wednesday evening at Maplewood. Craig Corliss’ 2-run homer gave Lexington a 6-3 lead in the top of the sixth and the Blue Sox hung on for the win. Corliss doubled and scored the Sox second run in the second inning. He closed out the 4-run sixth with his second homer of year. Pat Casserly singled to drive in the first two Blue Sox runs. Jake Elbeery added two hits, a run and an RBI. Pat McGowan (1-2) picked up his first win of 2023. Ryan O’Rourke struck out five in his two innings of work and recorded his first save. Leon Paulino’s 2-run homer in the first gave the Expos a 3-0 lead. Dionys Quezada hit a 2-run dinger in the 6th to cut the lead to 6-5.  Jario Vasquez (1-1) pitched two innings in relief and took the loss. Juan Parra delivered a one-out three run homer in the top of the seventh to propel the Andre Chiefs to a come from behind 4-3 win over the Melrose Americans at Morelli Field. A Joe Bova double and Chris Klein single got the Chiefs going in the seventh before Parra delivered his second round tripper of the season to put them in front. Teddy Dziuba gave a the Chiefs a brief 1-0 lead in the top of the first scoring Parra, who had walked, on a sacrifice fly. Owen Duggan, Nick Giangregorio, and Shawn Nestor, all had RBI singles that staked the Americans a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the second inning. A.J. Rourke (2-0) worked 2.2 scoreless innings, with three K’s, in relief of starter Tim Dunphy to grab the win. Closer Bobby Tramondozzi (0-1) took the loss. On Thursday, the Chiefs visit the Bulldogs in Lexington at 7:00 PM and the Americans will play the Malden Maddogs at Maplewood at 8:00 PM.

Jennings Leads Americans, Parra Paces Chiefs to Thursday Wins

John Jennings went 3-4, including a homer and four RBI’s, to lead the Melrose Americans to a 7-3 win over the Sabertooth Expos on Thursday night at Maplewood. Pat Costigan and Ian Libby (double) added two hits each to bolster the Americans’ 10 hit offense. Andrew Mazzone had a solo homer and Michael Oliveira knocked in a couple of runs for the Expos. Michael Nestor (1-0) went 4.1 innings to get the win, getting relief help from Will Gindel (0.2 innings) and Nick Colucci, who chalked up the two inning save. Ryan Cloutier (0-1) got the loss. In Lexington, torrid leadoff man Juan Parra (3-4, double, 2 RBI’s), Andrew Caulfield ( 2-3, double, 3 RBI’s) and Teddy Dziuba (2-3, 2 RBI’s) led the Andre Chiefs to a 10-5 win over the Lexington Bulldogs. It was an all southpaw effort from the Chiefs’ pitching staff as Josh Desai (2-0) got the win with assistance from Jonathan Chotkowski (2 innings) and veteran Jonathan Richard, who worked a scoreless seventh. Drew Crowley (1-2) took the loss. Parra raised his ICL best average to .553 (21-38) and leads the circuit in hits (21) and runs scored (17). The ICL now takes their annual 4th of July break. Play will resume on Wednesday, July 5.
