Blue Sox and Maddogs Open Second Half with Wins

Vesling Spins 1-Hitter for Blue Sox

Jake Vesling (1-0) tossed a one-hit shutout when the Lexington Blue Sox blanked the Malden Maddogs 2-0 on Tuesday evening at Maplewood. Vesling struck out eight and did not walk a batter. He retired the last 19 Maddogs in a row. Rob Carrillo (2-1) was nearly as good for Malden. He only allowed five hits and K’d 10. Andrew Selima and Moragn Brown knocked in the Lexington runs. Conor Hanlon’s double accounted for Malden’s only hit. On Wednesday, the Americans host the Middlesex Expos in Melrose at 7:30 PM and the Blue Sox and Reading Bulldogs meet in Lexington at 8:00 PM.

Kirby No-Hits Maddogs, Bulldogs & Americans Gain Monday Wins

Zach Kirby fired a 16 K no-hitter when the Middlesex Expos shutout the Malden Maddogs 3-0 at Brandeis University. Hits were hard to come by in the game as the Maddogs trio of Jack McLaughlin, Mario Fusco and Ryne Rametta allowed just two hits. The Expos scored twice in the top of the fifth inning to secure the win. Gabe Van Emon (2-0) struck out nine and allowed just two hits in five innings when the Reading Bulldogs edged the Andre Chiefs 3-2 at Maplewood. Van Emon outdueled the Chiefs’ Josh Desai (0-2) who didn’t allow an earned run and also struck out nine in his six innings. Graham Seed had a double and two hits for Reading while Andrew Caulfield and Ryan Noone drove in the Andre runs. In Lexington, the Melrose Americans got three hits from Cory Bright, and two each from Pat Costigan, Gianni Zarrilli, Jack Beverly and Aidan Barry, to lead a 14 hit offensive and beat the Blue Sox 9-3. Ryan Joyce (1-0, 1.1 innings ) picked up the win. Joyce, starter Joe Maguire (2.2 innings), and Nick Colucci (2 innings), combined to hold the Blue Sox to just three hits. Pete John and Morgan Brown had RBI’s for Lexington. Starter Robbie Cobb (2-1) suffered his first loss of the season.

Bulldogs Edge Maddogs in Only Friday Game, 5-4

Jack Morin and Christian Oliveira had two hits each and Drew Crowley (1-0) got the win when the Reading Bulldogs edged the Malden Maddogs 5-4 in Lexington High on Friday night. The ICL is now off until Monday evening.

Blue Sox Beat Maddogs 17-6, Expos Rally to Edge Americans, 5-4

Alex Voitik (2H, 2R, 4 RBI) and Andrew Selima (2H, 2R, 3 RBI) paced the Blue Sox offense in a 17-6 win over the Malden Maddogs on Thursday night in Lexington. Bennett Teceno drove in 3 runs and Julian Alvarez scored 3 runs for the Blue Sox. Lawrence Tang hit his first home run of the season in the 6th. Braden Killen (3R, 2H, RBI) and Isaiah Pinto (2H, R, RBI) led Malden. Gavin Dauer (1-1) picked up the win. The Middlesex Expos rallied from a 4-2 deficit in the bottom of the seventh inning, scoring three runs, to walk away with a 5-4 victory over the Melrose Americans at Brandeis. The Maddogs visit the Reading Bulldogs in Lexington tonight at 7:00 PM in the only game on the Friday ICL schedule.
