Intercity League to host Inaugural Golf Tournament Oct. 4
The Intercity Baseball League will host it’s Inaugural Golf Tournament on Friday, October 4 at Hillview Country Club in North Reading. For more information on the fund raising event check the ICL website for updates.
Alibrandis-Lexington Championship Series to be Broadcast Live
The 2019 Intercity League Championship Series between #2 Alibrandis and the #1 Lexington Blue Sox begins Monday night at Morelli Field in Melrose. All games in the best of five series will be broadcast live by Sam Feeley. To listen to the broadcast go to www.localsportsproductions.com/live/ All games in the series will begin at 7:45 PM. There will be no game on Thursday as the ICL continues its support of Steve Buckley’s Old Time Baseball Game which will be played at St. Peter’s Field in Cambridge at 7:00 PM. Here is the schedule for the ICL Championship Series: Game 1- Monday 7:45 PM Game 2- Tuesday 7:45 PM Game 3- Wednesday 7:45 PM Game 4- Friday 7:45 PM (if nec) Game 5- Sunday 7:45 PM (if nec)
Lightbody HR Sends Alibrandis to Finals
Watertown, MA– Veteran Dave Lightbody’s two run homer in the bottom of the sixth inning erased a 3-2 Wakefield Merchants lead and propelled Alibrandis to a 4-3 series clinching victory on Friday night at Victory Field. Alibrandis wins the series 2-1 and will now move on to their first ICL Championship Series. That best of five series will begin at Morelli Field on Monday night at 7:45 PM against the defending champion Lexington Blue Sox. Chris Butler had given the Merchants a 3-2 lead with a two RBI double in the top of the sixth inning. The Merchants took a 1-0 advantage in the top of the first inning on Mike Sorrentino’s RBI single. Alibrandis came back with two runs and took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third on RBI’s from Mike Maguire and Teddy Dziuba. Ryan Corriveau, who was 6-1 in the regular season, worked the first six innings for Alibrandis to get the win. 2018 ICL Pitcher of the Year Matt Horan retired the Merchants’ side in order in the top of the seventh to record the save. Greg Johnson went the route and took the loss despite some brilliant pitching. The Merchants, who were looking to return to the ICL finals for the first time since 1994, conclude the 2019 campaign with an overall 17-14 mark. Alibrandis was dominant in the Yawkey League for two decades and joined the ICL in 2018.
Merchants Even Series in 12 innings 2-1, Game 3 Tonight at Victory 7:30PM
Mike Sorrentino’s single knocked in Scott Searles with the game winner when the Wakefield Merchants walked off with a 12 inning 2-1 win over Alibrandis on Thursday night at Morelli Field. With the win, the Merchants evened the best of three series at 1-1. The deciding game three will be played tonight (Friday) at Victory Field in Watertown starting at 7:30 PM. Game two featured an outstanding early duel between Alibrandis’ Chris Costa and Wakefield’s Colin Jaena. The Merchants took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Tyler Lyne drove in Jon Luders. Alibrandis evened things up at one each in the top of third when a Teddy Dziuba two out single scored Ryan Leung who had doubled. The game stayed 1-1 until the 12th. Searles led off with a single, went to second on a wild pitch, and scored when Sorrentino delivered a base hit down the leftfield line. Joseph Maguire got the win with three innings of scoreless ball in relief of Jaena. The winner of Friday’s game three will move on to meet the Lexington Blue Sox in the best of five championship series.
