2019 ICL All-Stars Named, Play in EMass Classic on Saturday
The ICL has named its 2019 all-star team. The ICL will take on the Boston Park League on Saturday at 11:00 AM at Lexington High. The Cranberry League and Yawkey League will meet at 2:00 PM. At 5:00 PM the winners will meet for the Eastern Massachusetts Baseball Classic Championship. The 2019 ICL all-star team is below.
Merchants Win Only ICL Game on Thursday
Anthony Cecere had two hits, including a double, and four RBI’s, to lead the Wakefield Merchants to a 9-1 road win over the Americans in Melrose. Mike Andrews (1-1) went the distance for the Merchants to gain the win. Jon Luders, Scott Searles, Ryan Collins and Tyler Lyne all had two hits each to pace Wakefield’s 13 hit offense. Jackson Stanton went three for three and Kyle Cortese had a solo homer for the Americans. The Malden Maddogs host the Somerville Royals at Maplewood on Friday night at 7:45 PM in the only game on the ICL schedule.
Blue Sox Extend Unbeaten Streak to 13, Maddogs in Comeback Win, 4-4 Tie at Victory
The Lexington Blue Sox extended their unbeaten streak to 13 games with a 7-1 win over the Merchants in Wakefield. Mitch Schroeder and Anderson Jimenez each had a two RBI triple when the Sox scored six runs in the top of the fourth inning. Kevin Lucey tripled to drive in Jake Nardone for the Merchants run. Mike Geanellis (3-0) went five innings to get the win. Sean Doherty hit a grand slam in the top of the seventh inning when the Malden Maddogs came from behind to beat the Andre Chiefs 7-5 at Maplewood. The Chiefs scored all their runs in the bottom of the second inning on a R.J. Libby bases clearing triple and a Ben Waldrip two run homer. Ricky Alexy struck out the Chiefs side in order in the seventh inning to preserve the Maddogs win. In Watertown, the Somerville Royals and Alibrandis played to a 4-4 tie. The Merchants travel to Morelli Field at 7:30 PM to meet the Melrose Americans in the only ICL game scheduled for Thursday.
Merchants, Alibrandis & Blue Sox in Tuesday Win Column
Joseph Maguire picked up his fourth win of the season when the Wakefield Merchants held on to beat the Bulldogs 5-4 at Morton Field in Reading. Kevin Lucey led the Merchants with a double and three RBI’s and Jon Luders scored three runs and added two hits. Tyler Cedeno went a perfect three for three with a double for the Bulldogs. Maguire (4-1) struck out five in getting the complete game victory. Anthony Sapienza (0-2) took the loss. Ryan Corriveau also hit the four win plateau, combining with Nate Beck on a two-hitter, in Alibrandis 3-1 win over the Melrose Americans at Victory Field. Corriveau (4-1) and Beck, who recorded the save in the seventh inning, had seven strikeouts. Ian Libby reached base three times for the Americans with a double and two walks, Ronnie Luke (2-2) worked 3.2 innings and was tagged with the loss. The Lexington Blue Sox exploded for a dozen runs in the first three innings, and 19 total hits, on the way to a 12-2 win over the Maddogs in Malden. Former Harvard standout Morgan Brown had three hits and four RBI’s to pace the Lexington attack. Pat McGowan (1-0) picked up the win and combined with Nick Harper and Eddie Campbell to limit the Maddogs to five hits. Derek Bauer hit his second homer of the year for the Maddogs in the sixth inning. The Andre Chiefs-Somerville Royals game that was scheduled for Trum Field was postponed due to a conflict with a BRL tournament. The game has been rescheduled for July 31. Three ICL games are on the Wednesday evening agenda. The Merchants host the Blue Sox at Walsh Field in Wakefield at 6:00 PM, Alibrandis and the Royals hook up at Victory Field in Watertown at 7:45 PM, and the Chiefs host the Maddogs at Maplewood/Malden Catholic at 8:00 PM.
