Maddogs Beat Chiefs on Monday, Lose to Blue Sox on Tuesday
The Malden Maddogs split a couple of games over the last two nights in the only ICL games that were played. On Monday, the Maddogs rode the strong pitching of Zak Levine (1-0) to hold off the Andre Chiefs 6-4 at Maplewood. Jared Beniers’ two RBI triple and Ricky Alexy’s solo homer provided the majority of the offense. The Maddogs took on the Lexington Blue Sox last night and fell to the defending champs 6-1. Nate Esplein (1-0) scattered four hits and struck out nine in five innings to get the win. Josue Feliciano went 3-4 and Ross Curley had a couple of RBI’s for the Blue Sox. Logan Gillis’ solo homer provided all of the Malden offense. On Wednesday, the Somerville Royals meet the Wakefield Merchants at Walsh Field at 6:00 PM.
Bulldogs Sweep DH in Melrose, Alibrandis & Maddogs Grab Sunday Wins
The Reading Bulldogs took a pair of dramatic games from the Melrose Americans on Sunday at Morelli Field. In game one, the Bulldogs scored three times in the bottom of the seventh inning to take an 8-7 walkoff win. Brendan McDonald had a double and three RBI’s and Kyle Hawes had three hits to lead Reading. Kyle Wollman (1-0) picked up the win in relief. The Bulldogs went the come from behind route again in the nightcap, scoring twice in the bottom of the sixth to take a 3-2 win. Hawes stayed hot and hit his first homer of the season to back the pitching of Sean O’Neill and Jack Theriault (1-0) who picked up the win. In Wakefield, Alibrandis scored four runs in both the third and seventh innings on the way to an 11-3 win over the Merchants at Walsh Field. The Malden Maddogs evened their record at 1-1 with a 4-2 win over the Royals in Somerville. The Maddogs visit the Andre Chiefs on Monday at Maplewood in the only ICL game on the schedule.
Doubleheader at Morelli, Games at Wakefield & Trum on Sunday Schedule
Intercity League action continues on Sunday highlighted by a doubleheader at Morelli Field where the Reading Bulldogs meet the Melrose Americans. First pitch for game one is slated for 5:00 PM. At 3:00 PM the Wakefield Merchants host Alibrandis at Walsh Field and at 5:00 PM the Malden Maddogs and Somerville Royals tangle at Trum. On Monday, the Andre Chiefs host the Maddogs at 8:00 PM at Maplewood/Malden Catholic in the only game on the ICL schedule.
Merchants, Chiefs & Alibrandis Take Wednesday Night Wins
Two time ICL MVP Bobby Losanno and Kevin Lucey had two RBI’s apiece when the Merchants came from behind and walked off with a 4-3 win over the Melrose Americans at Walsh Field in Wakefield. Joseph Maguire (1-0), in relief of Mike Andrews (5 innings, 8 hits, 1 K) and Robert Shaw (1 inning, 1 K), picked up the win by working the top of the seventh. Ian Libby and Nick Rath had two hits each for the Americans. Dave Center and Rath had the Melrose RBI’s. Evan Walsh struck out ten and allowed just four hits in six innings to lead the Andre Chiefs to a 3-2 win over the Reading Bulldogs at Maplewood. Walsh (1-0) allowed a couple of runs in the top of the first inning on a two RBI double form Brendan McDonald then slammed the door over the next five frames. The Chiefs scored all of their runs in the bottom of the third against Jack Wallace (0-1) on singles from Michael Nestor, Tony Serino, Steve Passatempo and Kyle Dembrowski. David Kerns picked up his second save of the year in the seventh. In a late game, Alibrandis knocked off the Somerville Royals 7-5 at Trum Field. There are no ICL games now scheduled for Thursday night. The Alibrandis at Lexington game was postponed due a field conflict as Lexington High is hosting a high school tournament game at 6:00 PM. ICL play resumes on Sunday with three games on the schedule.
