Americans, Merchants & Blue Sox Kick-Off July with Wins
Ian Libby homered and had three RBI’s to lead the Americans to a 5-3 win over the Reading Bulldogs in Melrose. Mike Peters (1-0) went five innings to get the win. He had bullpen help from Shawn Smeglin and Chris Mitchell who worked 1.2 innings to record the save. Charlie Huegi added a double and a single while Josh Bohn and Dennis Crowley drove in the Americans’ other runs. Tyler Cedeno and Brendan McDonald each had two hits for the Bulldogs. Kyle Wollman (1-2) took the loss. At Maplewood, the Wakefield Merchants got a two run homer from Bobby Losanno on the way to beating the Andre Chiefs 5-2. James McNamara (2-2) went 6.1 innings to get the win. Jon Luders added two hits including a double and an RBI and Chris Butler chipped in with a double and a single. Ben Waldrip gave the Chiefs a 1-0 lead in the first inning with his second homer of the year. Zach Kirby (2-2) took the loss despite striking out 13 batters in six innings while Mitchell Clegg struck out the side for the Chiefs in the seventh. The Blue Sox made six runs in the third inning stand up in a 6-1 win over the Malden Maddogs in Lexington. Ross Curley led the way at the plate with a double and a single. Anderson Jimenez, Kyle Adie, Morgan Brown, Mitch Schroeder and Dom Zaher all drove in single runs for the Sox. Mike Geannelis (2-0) worked five innings and struck out seven to gain the win. Zak Levine (2-2) was tagged with the loss. On Tuesday the Chiefs visit Alibrandis at Victory Field in Watertown and the Bulldogs meet the Maddogs at Maplewood, both at 7:45 PM. The Blue Sox host the Somerville Royals at Lexington High at 8:00 PM.
Alibrandis Beats Wakefield in Only Sunday Game Not PPD
Alibrandis beat the Wakefield Merchants 6-3 in a rain shortened five inning affair on Sunday at Walsh Field. It was the only ICL game that survived the torrential downpours. All other games, including the second game of the doubleheader at Walsh, were washed out. Jake Miller knocked in three of the runs while Brian Saffelle (1-0) got the win. Three games are scheduled on Monday. The Melrose Americans host the Reading Bulldogs at Morelli at 7:30 PM, the Andre Chiefs play host to the Merchants at Maplewood at 8:00 PM, and the Malden Maddogs and the Blue Sox tangle in Lexington, also at 8:00 PM.
Alibrandis Beats Americans 3-1 in Lone Friday Game
Ryan Corriveau (3-1) tossed a complete game five-hitter, striking out eight, when Alibrandis edged the Melrose Americans 3-1 on Friday night at Morelli Field. Jake Miller paced the offense with two doubles and an RBI and Juan Parra had an RBI and reached base three times. Alibrandis tallied single runs in each of the last three innings to gain the win. It was the only ICL game that was played on Friday. There are no ICL contests scheduled for Saturday.
Bulldogs Blank Merchants 3-0, Maddogs-Blue Sox End in 2-2 Tie
Andrew Moccia tossed five innings of two-hit shutout ball, and Jack Theriault and Max Mardany each struck out the side respectively in the sixth and seventh innings, when the Reading Bulldogs shutout the Wakefield Merchants 3-0 at Morelli Field. Tyler Cedeno led the Bulldogs offense with a couple of hits that included a triple and two RBI’s. Zac Talis and Brandan McDonald chipped in with two singles each while Darren Hartwell drove in the Bulldogs third run. Moccia (1-0) struck out seven and Mardany picked up the save as the trio of Reading pitchers recorded 13 strikeouts. Greg Johnson (0-2) worked 5.1 innings but took the loss. The Malden Maddogs and Lexington Blue Sox battled to an eight inning curfew shortened tie. The Bulldogs tied the game in the top of the seventh on a single, an error, and a pinch-hit squeeze bunt by Pet Maltzan. The Blue Sox took a 2-0 lead into the seventh inning on RBI singles by Anderson Jimenez and Kyle Adie. The Melrose Americans host Alibrandis at Morelli Field at 7:30 PM in the only ICL game that is scheduled for Friday.
