Royals-Reds Split Doubleheader, Reds & Americans Win on Sunday
The Somerville Royals and Reading Bulldogs split a doubleheader on Sunday with the Royals winning the opener 8-7 and the Bulldogs taking the nightcap 4-2. In the first game, Sean Cameron, Sean Harrington, and Adam Johnson, had two hits each to back the pitching of Toby Stern (1-0), who went three innings to pick up the win. Zac Talis had a homer and three RBI’s for the Bulldogs. In game two, Alex Mandrus (1-0) threw 6.1 innings to get the win, and Zac Levine closed things out to get the save, in the Bulldogs’ victory. Chris Seidl had two RBI’s and Steve Busby and Cory DiLoreto each had a couple of hits.
In Wakefield, Shawn Smeglin tossed a neat four hitter when the Melrose Americans defeated the Merchants 5-1. Malcolm Nachmanoff and Matt Hosman each had two hits and an RBI for Melrose.
In other Sunday action, the Watertown Reds beat the Arlington Trojans 4-2 at Summer Street Field.
On Monday, the Americans host the Bulldogs at Morelli Field in Melrose at 7:30 PM and the Merchants visit the Andre Chiefs at Maplewood/Malden Catholic starting at 8:15 PM.
