Blue Sox Sweep Bulldogs to Take 2025 Championship

Bulldogs Blank Merchants 3-0, Maddogs-Blue Sox End in 2-2 Tie
Andrew Moccia tossed five innings of two-hit shutout ball, and Jack Theriault and Max Mardany each struck out the side respectively in the sixth and seventh innings, when the Reading Bulldogs shutout the Wakefield Merchants 3-0 at Morelli Field. Tyler Cedeno led the Bulldogs offense with a couple of hits that included a triple and two RBI’s. Zac Talis and Brandan McDonald chipped in with two singles each while Darren Hartwell drove in the Bulldogs third run. Moccia (1-0) struck out seven and Mardany picked up the save as the trio of Reading pitchers recorded 13 strikeouts. Greg Johnson (0-2) worked 5.1 innings but took the loss. The Malden Maddogs and Lexington Blue Sox battled to an eight inning curfew shortened tie. The Bulldogs tied the game in the top of the seventh on a single, an error, and a pinch-hit squeeze bunt by Pet Maltzan. The Blue Sox took a 2-0 lead into the seventh inning on RBI singles by Anderson Jimenez and Kyle Adie. The Melrose Americans host Alibrandis at Morelli Field at 7:30 PM in the only ICL game that is scheduled for Friday.
Reading Wins Big, Alibrandis Beats Royals Behind Costa’s 13K Effort
Mike Taylor had four hits, and Darren Hartwell, Cooper Marengi and Chris Webster drove in two runs each, when the Reading Bulldogs knocked off the Wakefield Merchants 12-1 at Walsh Field. Gabe Van Emon (1-0) didn’t allow a hit and struck out five in four innings to get the win. Zac Talis contributed three hits to the Bulldogs’ 15 hit offense. Joseph Maguire (3-1) suffered his first loss of the season for the Merchants. Alibrandis scored three times in the bottom of the sixth inning, breaking a 1-1 tie, and went on to defeat the Somerville Royals 4-1 at Victory Field. Chris Costa (1-0) struck out 13 batters and allowed just two hits to grab the complete game win. Jake Miller had a double and two RBI’s and Dave Lightbody added two hits for Alibrandis. Jonathan Richard (1-3) allowed only five hits in six innings but took the loss. On Thursday, the Bulldogs and Merchants are at it again in a 7:30 PM makeup game at Morelli Field and the Blue Sox host the Malden Maddogs in Lexington at 8:00 PM.
Chiefs Win, Alibrandis-Wakefield Suspended in 2nd, Game at Trum PPD
Newcomer R.J. Libby turned in a four hit and three RBI performance in his ICL debut, and Andrew Caulfield and Matt Nuzzo hit back to back fourth inning homers, when the Andre Chiefs held off the Malden Maddogs 11-8 on Tuesday night at Maplewood. Tim Dunphy (3-0) picked up the win for the Chiefs while David Kerns recorded his fourth save. Derek Bauer hit a two run homer for the Maddogs. The Wakefield Merchants-Alibrandis game at Victory Field was suspended in the top of the second inning due to rain while the Melrose Americans-Somerville Royals game at Trum Field was postponed. On Wednesday the Reading Bulldogs travel to Wakefield to meet the Merchants at 6:00 PM and Alibrandis hosts the Royals at Victory at 7:45 PM.
Monday Night Wins for Chiefs & Blue Sox
Zach Kirby (2-1) spun a one-hitter, striking out 11 batters, to pitch the Andre Chiefs past the Melrose Americans 10-0 at Maplewood on Monday night. The former Framingham State righty allowed only a single to Elias Varinos leading off the top of first. Ben Waldrip led the Chiefs at the plate going 3 for 3 with a two-run homer and five RBI’s. Manny Cabral added a pair of doubles for the Chiefs who had seven extra base hits. Chris Mitchell (1-2) took the loss. In Lexington, Matt Karis (1-0) got his first win of the season when the Blue Sox beat the Reading Bulldogs 5-2. Anderson Jimenez, Jeff Costello, Julian Alvarez, and Kyle Adie each drove in and scored a run for Lexington. Tyler Cedeno had three hits, an RBI, and stole a base for the Bulldogs. Kyle Wollman (1-1) suffered his first loss of the season. On Tuesday, Wakefield visits Alibrandis at Victory and the Malden Maddogs meet the Chiefs at Maplewood in 7:45 PM starts. At 8:30 PM the Somerville Royals will play host to the Americans at Trum Field.
