Blue Sox Edge Reds 2-1, Alibrandis Beats Royals at Trum 5-1
Andrew Selima’s pinch-hit double in the bottom of the sixth scored Richie Burgos with the winning run when the Blue Sox edged the Watertown Reds 2-1 in Lexington.. Burgos reached on an error that allowed Taylor Ferguson (HB) to score the tying run. Cassey Bussone improved to 2-0 with a complete game five hitter. He struck out five and walked one. Nate Beck (0-1) gave up six hits, two unearned runs and struck out nine in the complete game loss. In other Friday night action, Alibrandis beat the Somerville Royals 5-1.
Americans take 12-6 Comeback Win, Royals Beat Maddogs 5-1
The Americans sent 11 men to the plate in the fifth inning, scoring seven runs, on the way to a 12-6 comeback win over the Andre Chiefs at Morelli Field. Chris Hopkins had a homer and two doubles, John Jennings three hits and two RBI’s, and Dave Center two hits that included a two-run homer. Peter Copa and Leivi Ventura had home runs to help the Chiefs build a 6-2 third inning lead. Aran Hamilton-Grenham (1-0) got the win while Shawn Smeglin recorded his second save of the year. At Trum Field, Brady Chant had two hits and James McConville two RBI’s to lead the Somerville Royals to 5-1 win over the Malden Maddogs. Paul Covelle (1-0) allowed just two hits in five innings, striking out seven, to get the win. Alibrandis and the Maddogs will meet at East Boston Stadium on Thursday at 8:00 PM in the lone ICL game on the schedule.
Chiefs, Blue Sox & Reds in Tuesday Win Column
Jared Freni allowed three singles and struck out 13 to lead the Chiefs to a 2-0 shutout win over the Somerville Royals at Trum Field. Shande Stande and Mike Burgoyne had the Chiefs RBI’s. Freni (pictured left) went to 3-0 with the win while Ryan Covelle (1-1) took the loss. In Malden, the Lexington Blue Sox got three innings of shutout relief from Drew Leenhouts (1-1) to beat the Maddogs 6-2. Julian Alvarez homered for the Blue Sox while Ethan Harris hit his second homer of the year for Malden. The Watertown Reds moved to 5-1 on the season when they edged Alibrandis 5-4 in a contest that was played at Lexington High. On Wednesday, the Reading Bulldogs visit the Wakefield Merchants at Walsh Field at 6:00 PM, the Chiefs and Americans meet at Morelli Field in Melrose at 7:30 PM, and the Royals host the Maddogs at Trum Field at 8:15 PM.
Americans Win, Merchants & Bulldogs Play to 5-5 Tie
Chris Mitchell (2-0) went five innings to grab the win, and Shawn Smeglin retired the last six batters of the game in a row to get the save, when the Melrose Americans knocked off the Andre Chiefs 4-1 at Maplewood on Monday night. Charlie Huegi with a couple of doubles had two of the Americans five hits. Tony Serino accounted for two of the Chiefs’ five hits. Tim Dunphy (0-1) took the loss. At Endicott, the Wakefield Merchants and Reading Bulldogs played to a 5-5 nine inning deadlock. Dillon Koster had two hits and a couple of RBI’s and Bobby Lossano two doubles for Wakefield. Darren Hartwell led the Bulldogs with two hits and an RBI. On Tuesday, the Lexington Blue Sox visit the Malden Maddogs at Maplewood at 8, the Watertown Reds and Alibrandis will now meet at 8 at Lexington High, in a game switched from Ferullo Field, and the Chiefs and Somerville Royals play at Trum Field at 8:15 PM.
