Blue Sox & Americans Grab Monday Wins

The Blue Sox roared back from a 6-1 deficit, scoring eight unanswered runs, to defeat the Bulldogs 9-6 in an all Lexington battle at LHS. Julian Alvarez led the comeback with four RBI’s including hiting his 20th career homer, a three run shot in the third inning, Luis Atiles put the Blue Sox in front 8-6 with a two run sixth inning single. Jack Pasciak (1-0) got his first ICL win throwing 3.1 innings of hitless relief…….Devin Farren’s two out sixth inning double proved to be the game winner when the Melrose Americans edged the Andre Chiefs 5-4 at Morelli Field. The Chiefs’ Rowan Ostmann had tied the game in the top of the inning with a three run homer.  Pat Costigan had three hits for the Americans and Nick Galanis drove in two runs. Mike Nestor (1-0) picked up the relief win……

Sunday’s ICL Roundup

Kyle Murray (1-0) made his first start of the year and fired a four-hitter when the Lexington Blue Sox beat the Stoneham Sabers 6-1 at Recreation Park. Patrick Casserly drove in two runs for the Blue Sox. Murray struck out six…..Veteran righty Zach Kirby (1-0) struck out 14 and and allowed just three hits to lead the Middlesex Expos past the Melrose Americans 8-2 at East Boston Stadium. Leadoff man Kevin Rodriguez led the Expos with a homer and three RBI’s. Dalton Cody added two hits and a couple of RBI’s for Middlesex……The Malden Maddogs and Andre Chiefs played to a 4-4 tie at Playstead Park. The Maddogs jumped our to a 3-0 lead before the Chiefs came back to force the nine inning tie……

Chiefs’ Doherty Fires One-Hitter

Matt Doherty fired a one-hit shutout when the Andre Chiefs blanked the Stoneham Sabers 7-0 at Lexington High. It was the only ICL game on the Friday schedule and was to moved to LHS after light issues at Ferullo Field in Woburn.

The Chiefs jumped out to a 3-0 first inning lead and never looked back. Joe Bova, Miles Reid, Ruben Rodriguez Jr, Rowan Oostman all contributed two hits to the Chiefs’ 11 hit offense.

Doherty (3-1), struck out a dozen and took a no-hitter into the seventh inning where the Sabers’ Jack Salafia broke up the bid with a leadoff single.

ICL action continues on Sunday when the Chiefs host the Malden Maddogs at Playstead Park in Medford at 5:00 PM, the Lexington Blue Sox meet the Sabers at Recreation Park in Stoneham at 5:00 PM, and the Melrose Americans and Middlesex Expos clash at East Boston Stadium at 8:00 PM.

Americans Beat Blue Sox, Palmer Club Edges Bulldogs

The Melrose Americans turned around a 2-0 Blue Sox lead and scored nine times in their last two at bats to take a 9-4 win in Lexington on Thursday night. Shawn Nestor had a doiuble and  two RBI’s and Laz Giardina, Tyler Normandie, Shaun McPhee, and Alex Fernandes each drove in a run for the Americans. Luke Yorba (2-2) picked up the win working three innings in relief of starter Will Trach. Andreson Jimenez had two doubles for the Blue Sox…..In other action, the BPL’s Palmer Club edged the Lexington Bulldogs 4-3 at Catholic Memorial……

Rowan Oostman hit two homers and drove in three runs to lead the Andre Chiefs to a 15-5 win over the Malden Maddogs at Minuteman Vocational. Michael McCarthy homered and drove in four runs for the Chiefs. Ryaa Heldenbergh (2-3) tossed six innings to get the win……The Lexington Blue Sox got two RBI’s from Harrison Tucker and another from Nick Anderson to beat the Bulldogs 3-2 in Lexington. Matt Draper went six innigs and improved to 5-0….Dan Shaw went to 4-2 on the season in the Middlesex Expos’ 5-2 win over the Melrose Americans at Morelli Field. Kevin Rodriguez supplied the majority of the Middlesex offense with two homers….

Ryan Moreshi drove in three runs and Joe Bova and Liam Powers had a couple of RBI’s each when the Andre Chiefs beat the Malden Maddogs 15-8 at Lexington High on Tuesday night. It was the only game on the schedule. Michael McCarthy (3-0) tossed four innings to grab the win. A.J. Rourke worked the final three frames for the Chiefs….

Sabers & Bulldogs Grab Monday Wins

The Stoneham Sabers beat the Lexington Blue Sox 16-8 in a slugfest at LHS on Monday night, Nick Bartalini and Greg Reed led the offense with two doubles each while combing for six RBI’s. Austin Brune drove in three runs and Cameron Flaherty (2-2) got the win in relief…..Emilio Berndt had a homer and three RBI’s to lead the Lexington Bulldogs to an 8-4 win over the Brighton Black Sox at Catholic Memorial. Matthew Fazzano and Jonah Weinstein each added a couple of RBI’s for the Bulldogs….

Americans, Expos & Bulldogs Gain Sunday Wins

The Melrose Americans erased a 5-2 sixth inning deficit and scored 11 unanswered runs to go on and beat the Andre Chiefs 13-5 at Playstead Park. Tad Giardina led the comeback with a homer and three RBI’s while Chris Klein added a homer and drove in a couple of runs. Pat Costigan and Laz Giardina each had two RBI’s. Teddy Dziuba and Nolan Lopes accounted for all of the Chiefs’ runs with home runs. Luis Yorba (1-3) picked up his first win of the year……Josh Bohn hit a fourth inning three run homer to spark the Middlesex Expos to 7-5 comeback win over the Stoneham Sabers at Recreation Park. Colin Jaeba (2-2) and Eric Bridges allowed just six hits in the win. Bohn finished with four RBI’s while Xavier Nunez drove in a couple of runs……Christian Roncal went 4-4 and Jack Lee and Peyton Heisner both homered to lead the Bulldogs to an 8-4 win over the Malden Maddogs in Lexington. The Bulldogs used four pitchers in the game with Andrew Yen (1-0) throwing two scoreless innings to record the win…….

Alan Blumsack Former Owner of ICL’s Powder House Pub & Gately Rams Passes Away at 89

Alan P. Blumsack, 89, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Al was the owner and operator of the Intercity League’s Powderhouse Pub and later the Gately Rams entry for many seasons.

Raised in his hometown of Somerville, Massachusetts, and a longtime resident of Malden, Alan was the son of the late Anna and Henry Blumsack. He was the beloved husband of Cheryl Blumsack of Stoneham for 49 years. He was predeceased by his brother, Robert Blumsack, and is survived by his sister-in-law, Marilyn Blumsack of Andover. He was also the brother of the late Joyce Gladstone and brother-in-law of her late husband, Karl Gladstone.

Alan is survived by his wife, Cheryl; his daughter, Lori Fallon, and her husband, Aidan, of Danvers; his son, Scott Blumsack, and his wife, Danielle, of Groton; and his son, Brian Blumsack, and his wife, Lindsay, of Stoneham. He was the proud grandfather of Jack and Cara Fallon, Ana and Max Blumsack, and Robert and Elizabeth Blumsack, each of whom brought him immeasurable joy.

Alan graduated from Somerville High School in 1954, where he excelled in both baseball and football. After a postgraduate year at Tilton Academy, he attended Boston University, where he continued his passion for baseball as a member of the Terriers. He went on to enjoy a distinguished legal career, practicing as an attorney in Somerville for more than 50 years. In addition to his legal career, Alan was the proprietor of the original Powder House Pub in Somerville and later Malden. He was also a longtime member of the Somerville YMCA.

Alan will be remembered as a hardworking attorney, a dedicated son, and a man whose love, generosity, and sense of humor endeared him to everyone who knew him. Above all, Alan’s greatest pride was his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend who will be deeply missed.

Services are private.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to Boston Children’s Hospital www.childrenshospital.org or a charity of one’s choice.

Sabers and Chiefs Take Friday Night Wins

Brady Gillis fired six shutout innings to lead the Stoneham Sabers to a 7-0 win over the Blue Sox in Lexington on Friday night. Greg Reed had a two RBI second inning double while Jet Jones and Nelson Correa both had RBI’s. Gillis (3-1) struck out seven and scattered just three hits…..The Andre Chiefs jumped out to an 11-0 second inning lead on the way to beating the Lexington Bulldogs 13-5 at Summer Street Field in Arlington. Rowan Oostman had a huge night hitting two homers and driving in six runs. Teddy Dziuba added three hits and Byron Woodman and Miles Reed chipped in with a couple of hits each. Joe Bova added a solo homer. Matt Doherty (2-1) got the win…..
