Thursday’s ICL Recap

The Andre Chiefs won their 12th game in a row when they beat the Palmer Club 20-6 at Fallon Field in Roslindale on Thursday evening. Miles Reid, Byron Woodman (double 3 RBI), and Nolan Lopes, had four hits each to lead the 24 hit attack. Joe Bova (2 doubles,) and Mitchell Schroeder (double, 2 RBI) added three hits apiece. Paul Frisoli (2-0, 7K’s) went all seven innings to get the win. The Lexington Blue Sox put up 20 runs of their own in a 20-0 five inning rout of The BASE in West Roxbury. Julian Alvarez, with a grand slam, led the Blue Sox six home run parade while Jake McElroy, Ryan Grace, Joe Auger, Brett Stone, and Austyn Travis all hit round trippers. Jack Beauchesne (2-0) picked up the win in relief of starter Chris Wanat. Cole Donato finished up with a scoreless inning, striking out two. It was the 9th win in their last 10 games for the Sox. The Melrose Americans stayed hot, winning their 5th straight, and added to the Thurdsay romps with a 16-2 win over ADSL at Town Field in Dorchester. Tad Giardina had a huge night at the plate going 3-4 with a homer, double, two runs scored, and four RBI’s. Owen Duggan (3 singles), John Jennings (double), Chris Klein, and Ian Libby (double) all chipped in with two RBI’s each to add to the Americans’ 18 hit asault. Matt Chiodo (1-0) went the six inning distance and allowed just two runs while striking out five batters. The Lexington Bulldogs got a two hit, six shutout inning effort from Ezra Charles and blanked the Boston Athletics 7-0 at Lexington High School. John Nordman led the way at the plate for the Bulldogs with a perfect 3 for 3 evening that included two doubles and a couple of RBI’s. Mike Sibert (2 doubles), Reuben Siegel, Matthew Favazzo, and Dylan Steinkrauss (2-2, double, 2 RBI) all added two hits for the Bulldogs. Charles, who struck out seven, evened his record at 2-2 and lowered his ERA to 2.74. Greg Gentle preserved the shutout by working a scoreless seventh. In other action, Mass Envelope/GM beat the Malden Maddogs 14-7 at Maplewood.

ALL-NESTOR for Americans, Chiefs, Blue Sox & Expos Win

The Melrose Americans beat Mass Envelope/GM 3-2 at Morelli Field on Wednesday night, Those at the game saw something they have no doubt never seen before nor ever will again. Mike Nestor (pictured) struck out 17, picked three runners off base, and caught a line drive back to the mound, making him personally responsible for all 21 outs in the game. Most certainly this is the first time in ICL history this remarkable feat has ever occured. Nestor (5-1) allowed five hits and walked two. Jack Beverly’s homer keyed a three-run sixth inning for the Americans. The Andre Chiefs rung out 13 hits on the way to a 10-1 victory over the E.I. Braves at Maplewood Tim Dunphy (4-1) went five innings to get the win. Hector Pellot (3-4, double, 3 RBI’s), Mitchell Schroeder (2-4, double, RBI), Teddy Dziuba (2-2, double) and Nick Valdario (2 RBI’s) led the offense. It was the Chiefs’ 11th straight win. Brett Stone’s pinch hit two out single, in the bottom of the sixth inning, broke a 4-4 tie and gave the Blue Sox a 5-4 win over the Al Thomas A’s in Lexington. Nick Anderson drove in two runs with a third inning triple and Anderson Jimenez added two hits for the Sox. Mark Herlihy (1-0) picked up the relief win while Nate Hartley got the A’s side in order in the seventh to record his first save. Louis Cespedes (5-1) struck out 11 and allowed just five hits to pitch the Middlesex Expos to a 3-2 win over the Boston Padres at East Boston Stadium. In other games, the Boston Athletics doubled up the Stoneham Sabers 10-5 at Town Field in Dorchester and TJO Sports beat the Lexington Bulldogs 17-4 at Fallon Field in Roslindale,

Tuesday’s Roundup

Dan Shaw (2-2) went five innings for the win when the Middlesex Expos pulled away form the Al Thomas Athletics 14-2 at English HS in Jamaica Plain on Tuesday night. Sean Moynihan (4) and Eduardo Soto (3) combined to knock in seven runs for the Expos. Josue Feliciano and Max Dushney drove in two runs each to lead the Lexington Blue Sox to a 6-1 win over ADSL at Town Field in Dorchester. Jack Beauchesne (1-0) got the win in relief of starter Dan Metzdorf while Matt Deaper picked up the three inning save. In other games, the Malden Maddogs blanked the McKay Club Beacons 11-0, Mass Envelope/GM knocked off the Lexington Bulldogs 5-2, and TJO Sports shutout the Stoneham Sabers 10-0.  

Costigan (8 RBI’s) Leads Americans 6 HR Barrage, Chiefs & Expos Win

Pat Costigan went 4-5, with two homers and a double, and knocked in an amazing eight runs, when the Melrose Americans beat the East Boston Knights 19-4 in West Roxbury on Monday night. Costigan was not alone in the Melrose home run parade as Chris Klein (4-5, 5 RBI’s, double) and John Jennings (3-3, 3 RBI’s) each hit two homers in the game. Combined the Costigan, Klein and Jennings trio went 11-13, knocked in 16 runs, and hit six homers in the game. Jennings leads the ICL with five round trippers. Brandon McMahon (3-1) struck out ten batters in six innings to give the Americans their third straight win. The Andre Chiefs erased a 2-0 Boston Athletics lead, scoring six times in the bottom of the fourth inning, to come away with their 10th straight win 6-2 at Maplewood,  Silas Reed (5-0) stayed perfect on the year while winning his fifth decision in a row, The former Tufts University righty went five innings and allowed just one hit and struck out nine. Byron Woodman’s two run homer tied the game at two before Nate Witkowski (double), Emanuel Rosado (2 RBI’s) and Joe Bova and Miles Reid each knocked in a run to put the Chiefs ahead. Idleson Tavares (4) and Eduardo Soto (3) combined to drive in seven runs to give the Middlesex Expos a 10-8 come from victory over the Brighton Black Sox at East Boston Stadium. The Expos trailed 8-5 before scoring twice in the bottom of the fifth and adding three more in the sixth to gain the win.

ICL Teams Sweep Sunday’s Inter-League Play

Nick Colucci (2-2) fired a one-hitter when the Melrose Americans beat the Boston Braves 6-1 at Morelli Field. John Jennings hit his third homer of the year for Melrose. Julian Murray (1-2) went the distance, striking out five, to get the Stoneham Sabers an 11-1 win over the Brighton Black Sox at Lexington High. Tommy Shimchak led the way at the plate going 3-4  with two doubles. Luis Quintero also has two doubles and added two RBI’s for the Sabers. A.J. Rourke allowed just one hit in five innings when the Andre Chiefs shutout the The BASE 7-0 at English High.  Juan Parra (triple) and Teddy Dziuba led the Chiefs with two hits each. Rourke (3-1), struck out seven.

Americans Beat Maddogs 16-11 in Thursday’s Only Game

Pat Costigan, John Jennings and Chris Klein all homered to lead the Melrose Americans to a 16-11 win over the Malden Maddogs on Thursday night at Maplewood. Costigan also had a triple, scored four times, and drove in four runs, and Klein went 4-6 and scored three runs. Mike Nestor (3-1) struck out eight batters in 4.2 innings to get the win. Nick Colucci, David Hunter and Matt Chiodo, who picked up the save, all worked for the Americans. There are no ICL games scheduled for tonight. Action continues on Sunday with the Americans hosting the Brighton Braves at Morelli at 4:00 PM, the Brighton Black Sox and Stoneham Sabers meeting at Lexington High at 5:00 PM, and the Andre Chiefs visiting The BASE at English High School in Jamaica Plain at 8:00 PM.

Chiefs Beat Bulldogs & Sabers Over Americans, Others PPD

The Andre Chiefs won their eighth straight game, beating the Malden Maddogs 13-3 at Maplewood on Wednesday night. Evan Walsh (2-0) went 5.2 innings, allowing four hits and striking out six, to get the win. Andrew Caulfield got the Chiefs going with a two run homer in  the first inning while Mitchell Schroeder had a single, double, triple and thrre RBI’s. Jack Raimo (1-2) tossed five innings to record his first win of the season to lead the Stoneham Sabers to a 9-3 win over the Melrose Americans at Morelli Field. Tommy Shimchak, Nelson Correa and Matt Consgli had two hits each and Luis Quintero launched a solo homer for the Sabers. Ted Giardina had two of the Americans’ seven hits. The BASE at Lexington Bulldogs and the Lexington Blue Sox at Middlesex Expos games were both postponed due to rain.

Sabers Walk Off Bulldogs 5-4 with 3 Run Seventh Inning

The Stoneham Sabers got a game winning walk off hit from Luis Quintero, and scored times in the bottom of the seventh inning, to walk off with a 5-4 win over the Lexington Bulldogs at Maplewood on Tuesday evening. Chris Barnes went the distance in a gutsy performance on the mound. Barnes struck out 12 Bulldogs and came back from a rain delay to finish the game. Barnes earned his second win of the season.Matt Consigli was hot at the plate and had two hits, a double, RBI and a run scored. Qunitero also had two hits on the day, including a double. Nick Bartalini, Consigli and Mike Maselli helped load the bases in the 7th, to set up the come from behind win. It was the only ICL game played on Tuesday.

Cespedes No-Hits Sabers in Expos Win, Chiefs Nip Blue Sox 1-0 Behind Reed

Louis Cespedes fired a no-hitter when the Middlesex Expos beat the Stoneham Sabers 10-1 at East Boston Stadium on Monday night. Cespedes (4-1) struck out nine, walked five, and allowed one unearned run. Idelson Taveras (triple) and Anthony Marcano drove in two runs each and Michael Oliveira went 3-3 for the Expos. Silas Reed (4-0) struck out 10 batters and allowed just three hits in 6.2 innings to pitch the Andre Chiefs to a 1-0 win over the Lexington Blue Sox at Maplewood. Both teams entered the game on six game winning streaks. Juan Parra’s third inning two out single drove in Joe Bova (walk) with the game’s only run. Matt Draper (5-1) suffered his first loss of the year despite allowing only the hit to Parra in 4.1 innings before giving way to Michael O’Brien in the fifth. Jon Shepard picked up the one out save for the Chiefs in the seventh with a K.

Expos Beat Americans 4-2 in Lone Sunday Game

Frankie Melendez (1-0) got the win and Ryan Cloutier chalked up his second save when the Middlesex Expos beat the Melrose Americans 4-2 at Morelli Field. It was the only ICL game played on Sunday.Melendez and Cloutier combined to strike out seven and allow only three hits. Chris Klein drove in both Melrose runs with a fifth inning double. Bailey Taylor Black (1-1) took the loss. On Monday, the Andre Chiefs host the Lexington Blue Sox at Maplewood and the Stoneham Sabers and Expos tangle at East Boston Stadium. Both games will start at 8:00 PM.
