Bulldogs Beat Chiefs 3-1

Ryan Boyle hit a two run homer and Brendan Albert and Andrew Croteau had doubles when the Reading Bulldogs knocked off the Andre Chiefs 3-1 in Lexington on Thursday night. Starter Brendan Flynn (1-0) got the win while Greg Gentle went the final three innings to record his second save. Tim Dunphy (2-2) took the loss. Nick Valdario had three of the Chiefs eight hits. The Chiefs are back in Lexington tonight at 8:00 PM to face the Blue Sox in the only ICL game on the Friday slate.

Mitchell Pitches Americans to Win, Bulldogs Beat Blue Sox

Chris Mitchell (2-0) threw 6.1 innings of one-hit ball to lead the Melrose Americans to a 6-2 win over the Middlesex Expos at Morelli. Leadoff man Pat Costigan had a double and three RBI’s and Cory Bright (2 RBI) and Aidan Barry each enjoyed three hit nights for the Americans. Mitchell struck out five before giving way to Bobby Tramondozzi in the seventh. Matt Josselyn (1-1) took the loss for the Expos. In Lexington, Pat Solomon with a double, triple, 2 RBI and 2 runs scored and Ryan Boyle with 3 RBI, including two on his 5th inning home run, led the Reading Bulldogs to an 8-6 win over the Blue Sox. Cole Veldis (2-2) pitched 6.1 innings with 9 K’s for the win. Julian Alvarez hit his second homer of the year and Jesse McCullough had three hits for Lexington. Jack Schwartz (1-1) suffered the loss. The Bulldogs are right back in action on Thursday night when they host the Andre Chiefs at Lexington High at 7:00 PM in the only ICL game on the schedule.

Vesling Spins 1-Hitter for Blue Sox

Jake Vesling (1-0) tossed a one-hit shutout when the Lexington Blue Sox blanked the Malden Maddogs 2-0 on Tuesday evening at Maplewood. Vesling struck out eight and did not walk a batter. He retired the last 19 Maddogs in a row. Rob Carrillo (2-1) was nearly as good for Malden. He only allowed five hits and K’d 10. Andrew Selima and Moragn Brown knocked in the Lexington runs. Conor Hanlon’s double accounted for Malden’s only hit. On Wednesday, the Americans host the Middlesex Expos in Melrose at 7:30 PM and the Blue Sox and Reading Bulldogs meet in Lexington at 8:00 PM.

Kirby No-Hits Maddogs, Bulldogs & Americans Gain Monday Wins

Zach Kirby fired a 16 K no-hitter when the Middlesex Expos shutout the Malden Maddogs 3-0 at Brandeis University. Hits were hard to come by in the game as the Maddogs trio of Jack McLaughlin, Mario Fusco and Ryne Rametta allowed just two hits. The Expos scored twice in the top of the fifth inning to secure the win. Gabe Van Emon (2-0) struck out nine and allowed just two hits in five innings when the Reading Bulldogs edged the Andre Chiefs 3-2 at Maplewood. Van Emon outdueled the Chiefs’ Josh Desai (0-2) who didn’t allow an earned run and also struck out nine in his six innings. Graham Seed had a double and two hits for Reading while Andrew Caulfield and Ryan Noone drove in the Andre runs. In Lexington, the Melrose Americans got three hits from Cory Bright, and two each from Pat Costigan, Gianni Zarrilli, Jack Beverly and Aidan Barry, to lead a 14 hit offensive and beat the Blue Sox 9-3. Ryan Joyce (1-0, 1.1 innings ) picked up the win. Joyce, starter Joe Maguire (2.2 innings), and Nick Colucci (2 innings), combined to hold the Blue Sox to just three hits. Pete John and Morgan Brown had RBI’s for Lexington. Starter Robbie Cobb (2-1) suffered his first loss of the season.

Bulldogs Edge Maddogs in Only Friday Game, 5-4

Jack Morin and Christian Oliveira had two hits each and Drew Crowley (1-0) got the win when the Reading Bulldogs edged the Malden Maddogs 5-4 in Lexington High on Friday night. The ICL is now off until Monday evening.

Blue Sox Beat Maddogs 17-6, Expos Rally to Edge Americans, 5-4

Alex Voitik (2H, 2R, 4 RBI) and Andrew Selima (2H, 2R, 3 RBI) paced the Blue Sox offense in a 17-6 win over the Malden Maddogs on Thursday night in Lexington. Bennett Teceno drove in 3 runs and Julian Alvarez scored 3 runs for the Blue Sox. Lawrence Tang hit his first home run of the season in the 6th. Braden Killen (3R, 2H, RBI) and Isaiah Pinto (2H, R, RBI) led Malden. Gavin Dauer (1-1) picked up the win. The Middlesex Expos rallied from a 4-2 deficit in the bottom of the seventh inning, scoring three runs, to walk away with a 5-4 victory over the Melrose Americans at Brandeis. The Maddogs visit the Reading Bulldogs in Lexington tonight at 7:00 PM in the only game on the Friday ICL schedule.

Americans Beat Chiefs 4-3 in Walk-off, Bulldogs’ Velis Blanks Maddogs, 5-0

The Americans broke a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the seventh inning to walk-off with a 4-3 win over the Andre Chiefs at Morelli Field. Cory Bright and Pat Costigan led the Americans’ nine hit offense with three hits each. Nick Valdario had three of the Chiefs’ nine hits. Bobby Tramondozzi (1-0) pitched the seventh inning and picked up the win in relief of starter Chris Mitchell (4.1 innings) and Ryan Joyce (1.2 innings). Cal Carroll (0-2) worked the final 2.2 innings and took the loss. Chiefs’ starter Evan Walsh went the first four innings for the visitors. In Lexington, Cole Velis spun a complete game three hit shutout to lead the Reading Bulldogs to a 5-0 win over the Malden Maddogs. Velis (1-2) struck out seven and walked three. Graham Seed (double) and Evan O’Rourke (triple) each had three hits and Jack Morin added two hits, including a double, and drove in a couple of runs for Reading. Matt Tyman (0-2) gave up six hits in five innings and took the loss. On Thursday, the Lexington Blue Sox host the Maddogs at 8:00 PM and the Americans visit the Middlesex Expos at Brandeis University at 8:15 PM.

Blue Sox Beat Chiefs 6-3, Maddogs Top Americans 8-4

Chris Aufiero’s two run triple was the big hit in the four run second inning when the Blue Sox knocked off the Andre Chiefs 6-3 in Lexington. Aufiero scored his second run in the fourth and Cam Meyer doubled to drive in the Blue Sox sixth run. Robbie Cobb (2-0) pitched three innings in relief of Ryan O’Rourke, giving up one hit and a run, to earn his second win. Manny Delcarmen worked the seventh to earn his first save of the year. Chiefs starter Josh Desai (0-1) took the loss. Adam Johnson, David Lightbody and Nick Valdario drove in the three Chiefs runs. In Malden, the Maddogs doubled up the visiting Melrose Americans 8-4 at Maplewood. More on this game soon. On Wednesday, the Reading Bulldogs host the Maddogs in Lexington at 7:00 PM and the Chiefs meet the Americans at Morelli in a 7:30 PM start.

Bulldogs and Expos Take Monday Wins

Gabe Van Emon followed up his 16 K no-hitter last week with a five inning 14 strikeout performance to lead the Reading Bulldogs to a 5-3 win over the Blue Sox in Lexington. Van Emon allowed just one hit over his five innings before giving way to Greg Gentile (1-0) who picked up the win. Ryan Boyle’s two run triple in the top of the seventh broke a 2-2 tie. Boyle, who had two hits and three RBI’s, and Patrick Solomon with two hits and two runs scored, led the Reading offense. Julian Alvarez had two of the five Lexington hits in the game. Jack Pawloski (0-1) worked the seventh for the Blue Sox and was tagged with the loss. At Maplewood, starter David Kerns and reliver Shawn Carlson pitched the Middlesex Exops to a 5-4 win over the Andre Chiefs. The Expos jumped out to a 5-1 third inning lead and held on for the victory. Arnulfo Gonzalez for the Expos and Andrew Caulfield for the Chiefs each homered in the game. Carlson was dominant in picking up the save striking out five of the last six batters he faced. Tim Dunphy (2-1) went the route for the Chiefs and took the loss. Both the Chiefs and the Blue Sox will look to get back into the win column when the two teams meet in Lexington tonight. In Tuesday’s other scheduled game, the Melrose Americans will visit the Malden Maddogs at Maplewood. Both games will start at 8:00 PM.

Kirby K’s 14 as Expos Knock Off Bulldogs 7-1

Zach Kirby (2-0) struck 14 batters and allowed just three hits when the Middlesex Expos beat the Reading Bulldogs 7-1 in Lexington on Sunday evening. It was the only ICL game on the schedule. The Expos jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning and never looked back. Newcomer Ryan Cloutier led Middlesex at the plate going 3 for 3 including a three run triple. Starter Madison Dina (0-1) took the loss for the Bulldogs. On Monday the Chiefs host the Expos at Maplewood and the Bulldogs visit the Blue Sox in Lexington. Both games are scheduled to start at 8:00 PM.
