Sabers-Expos to Meet in Monday’s Play-in Game

The Stoneham Sabers and Middlesex Expos will meet on Monday at 8:15 PM at Maplewood in the Intercity League’s 2024 Play-in game.

The Expos finished the regular season in fourth place with a 15-8-2 mark while the Sabers finished in the fifth spot at 10-15-0.

The winner of Monday’s Play-in game will move on to meet the #1 seed Lexington Blue Sox (19-4-1). The opening game of the Expos/Sabers vs. Blue Sox best of five semi-final series will be on Tuesday at 8:00 PM in Lexington.

In the other seni-final series, the #3 seeded Melrose Americans (16-7-1) travel to meet the defending champion #2 seed Andre Chiefs (19-6-0). Game one of that series will be played at Maplewood on Tuesday at 8:00 PM.

Sunday’s final regular season game between the Blue Sox and Americans was cancelled due to thunderstorms. The game will not be made up.

Blue Sox Clinch #1 Seed

Dom Gabardi (HR, 3 RBI). Andreson Jumenez (2 doubles, 2 RBI), and Jake McElroy (double) had three hits each to lead the Blue Sox to a 15-4 win over the East Boston Knights in Lexington on Friday night. With the win the Blue Sox clinch the number one seed in the upcoming ICL playoffs. Luke Descheneaux (1-0) got the win in relief of starter Chris Wanat. Five Lexington pitchers combined to strike out 10 Knights.

On Saturday, The BASE visits the Lexington Bulldogs at LHS at 5:00 PM.

The ICL regular season concludes on Sunday with the Blue Sox visiting the Melrose Americans at Morelli Field at 7:30 PM.

The 2024 ICL Playoffs are scheduled to begin on Monday. The #4 seed Middlesex Expos will host the #5 Stoneham Sabers in a one game play-in game. The winner of that game will advance to meet the Blue Sox in a best of five semi-final series starting in Lexington on Tuesday at 8;00 PM.

In the other semi-final series, the #3 Melrose Americans will meet the #2 Andre Chiefs . Game one of that best of five series is seheduled for Maplewood on Tuesday at 8:00 PM.

Thursday’s ICL Roundup

The Melrose Americans got a complete game three-hitter from Ronnie Luke to turn back the Al Thomas A’s 7-2 at Morelli Field. Jack Beverly led the way with a homer and four RBI’s while Chris Klein hit his fourth home run of the year and had a couple of RBI’s. Luke (2-0), struck out seven. It was the eighth straight win for the Americans.

Robbie Cobb came on in relief in the bottom of the sixth inning and pitched out of a bases loaded nobody out jam, to spark the Lexington Blue Sox to a 3-2 win over the Middlesex Expos at Minuteman Vocational. Ben Leonard. Charlie Walsh, and Dylan Walsh drove in the Blue Sox runs. Cole Donato (2-0) got the win and Ryan O’Rourke threw a scoreless seventh for the save. Dan Shaw (2-3) went the distance for the Expos and struck out eleven.

Mitchell Schroeder went 4-4, with two doubles, and drove in five runs, to lead the Andre Chiefs to a 13-1 five inning win over ADSL at Howard Park. Paul Frisoli (3-0) allowed just one hit in four innings, striking out six, to record the win.

In other action, the Boston Padres edged the Lexington Bulldogs 5-4 and the EI Braves beat the Stoneham Sabers 21-6.

Cespedes Throws Second No-Hitter

Lou Cespedes fired the second no-hitter in his last three starts to lead the Middlesex Expos to a 7-0 win over the YBL’s Brighton Braves at Garvey Park in Dorchester on Wednesday night. Cespedes (pictured) struck out 13 batters and allowed three walks. On July 15 he threw a no-hitter vs. the Stoneham Sabers in a 10-1 win at East Boston Stadium. Cespedes raised his record to 6-1 on the year. He has now struck out 70 batters and allowed just 24 hits in 46.1 innings with an ERA of 1.81.  In between no-hitters, the Merrimack College righty pitched a complete game 11 K, five-hitter in a 3-2 win over the Boston Padres 3-2 on July 24. The win was the 8th straight for the Expos.

In other Wednesday games, Mass Envelope/GM beat the Sabers 7-4 at Maplewood despite two hits each from Tommy Shimchak and Danny Choate and the Al Thomas Athletics edged the Malden Maddogs 6-5 at West Roxbury High.

The Lexington Blue Sox at Melrose Americans game was postponed due to wet grounds at Morelli Field.

Americans Win 7th in a Row, Bulldogs Rout Chiefs 12-2, Expos Hammer The BASE 13-1

The Melrose Americans broke a 6-6 tie, scoring three runs in the sixth and adding a couple more in the seventh, and beat the Boston Padres 11-6 at Cleveland Circle, Tad Giardina had a double and three RBI’s, Chris Klein had three hits, and Jackson Powers homered for Melrose. Brandon McMahon (4-1) got the win with Ben Cassavoy chalking up the three inning save. The win was the seventh straight for the Americans.

The Lexington Bulldogs got a five-hit complete game effort from veteran Joe Perna to lead them to a 12-2 rout of the Andre Chiefs at LHS. Evan O’Rourke had a huge night at the plate going 4-4 with three doubles and six RBI’s. Reuben Siegel and John Nordman each added two hits for the Bulldogs.

The Palmer Club scored six times in the top of  the eighth inning to knock off the Stoneham Sabers 10-4 at Morelli Field. Nick Bartalini, Luis Quintero, Angelo Colucci and Tommy Shimchak each had two hits for the Sabers.

In other action, the Middlesex Expos limited The BASE to two hits in a 13-1 win in Easr Boston and the Brighton Braves beat the Malden Maddogs 8-6 at Rogers Park.

Blue Sox and Sabers Get Monday Wins

The Lexington Blue Sox reversed a 3-0 deficit and came back to beat the Lexington Bulldogs 6-4 on Monday night. Jake McElroy and Nick Anderson drove in a couple of runs each for the Blue Sox. Pat McGowan (1-0) picked up the win with one inning of scoreless relief. Nick Favazzo had three hits (2 doubles) for the Bulldogs. The win was the 1oth in the last 11th games for the Blue Sox.

The Stoneham Sabers got a route going effort from Julian Murray to turn back the East Boston Knights 12-6 at Maplewood. Nick Bartalini led the Sabers with three hts, including two triples, and two RBI’s. Murray, (2-2) struck out a dozen.

Sunday’s ICL Roundup

Nick Colucci (3-2) fired a six-hit shutout, striking out seven, to lead the Meltose Americans to a 5-0 win over the Lexington Bulldogs at Morelli Field on Sunday. It was the Americans’ sixth straight win and raised their record to 14-7-1 on the year. Jack Beverly led the way at the plate with a homer, single, and four RBI’s. Ted Giardina added a RBI double for the winners.

The Lexington Blue Sox beat the Andre Chiefs 7-1 in a game that was continued from June 20th. The Chiefs led 1-0 when the gane was suspended in the third inning back in June. When play resumed in the bottom of the third inning,the Blue Sox scored four times thanks to an RBI triple by Anderson Jimenez and three Chiefs errors. Charlie Walsh singled in two runs in the sixth inning to close out the scoring. Matt Draper pitched four shutout innings in relief to earn the win. He struck out five and gave up only two hits.

In other action, the Stoneham Sabers beat the Malden Maddogs 7-0.

Chiefs Beat East Boston, 13-2

Tyler Ferdinand drove in three runs, with a single and double, to lead the Andre Chiefs to a 13-2 win over the Yawkey League’s Knights at East Boston Stadium on Friday night.

It was the only game played involving an ICL team.

Juan Parra (RBI) had a single and triple and Teddy Dziuba, Nolan Lopes and Emanuel Rosado each drove in two runs.

Esteban Santos-Fuentes (1-0) struck out eight in five innings to get his first win of the season.

It was the Chiefs’ 13th win in a row.

There are no ICL games scheduled for Saturday.

Thursday’s ICL Recap

The Andre Chiefs won their 12th game in a row when they beat the Palmer Club 20-6 at Fallon Field in Roslindale on Thursday evening. Miles Reid, Byron Woodman (double 3 RBI), and Nolan Lopes, had four hits each to lead the 24 hit attack. Joe Bova (2 doubles,) and Mitchell Schroeder (double, 2 RBI) added three hits apiece. Paul Frisoli (2-0, 7K’s) went all seven innings to get the win.

The Lexington Blue Sox put up 20 runs of their own in a 20-0 five inning rout of The BASE in West Roxbury. Julian Alvarez, with a grand slam, led the Blue Sox six home run parade while Jake McElroy, Ryan Grace, Joe Auger, Brett Stone, and Austyn Travis all hit round trippers. Jack Beauchesne (2-0) picked up the win in relief of starter Chris Wanat. Cole Donato finished up with a scoreless inning, striking out two. It was the 9th win in their last 10 games for the Sox.

The Melrose Americans stayed hot, winning their 5th straight, and added to the Thurdsay romps with a 16-2 win over ADSL at Town Field in Dorchester. Tad Giardina had a huge night at the plate going 3-4 with a homer, double, two runs scored, and four RBI’s. Owen Duggan (3 singles), John Jennings (double), Chris Klein, and Ian Libby (double) all chipped in with two RBI’s each to add to the Americans’ 18 hit asault. Matt Chiodo (1-0) went the six inning distance and allowed just two runs while striking out five batters.

The Lexington Bulldogs got a two hit, six shutout inning effort from Ezra Charles and blanked the Boston Athletics 7-0 at Lexington High School. John Nordman led the way at the plate for the Bulldogs with a perfect 3 for 3 evening that included two doubles and a couple of RBI’s. Mike Sibert (2 doubles), Reuben Siegel, Matthew Favazzo, and Dylan Steinkrauss (2-2, double, 2 RBI) all added two hits for the Bulldogs. Charles, who struck out seven, evened his record at 2-2 and lowered his ERA to 2.74. Greg Gentle preserved the shutout by working a scoreless seventh.

In other action, Mass Envelope/GM beat the Malden Maddogs 14-7 at Maplewood.

ALL-NESTOR for Americans, Chiefs, Blue Sox & Expos Win

The Melrose Americans beat Mass Envelope/GM 3-2 at Morelli Field on Wednesday night, Those at the game saw something they have no doubt never seen before nor ever will again. Mike Nestor (pictured) struck out 17, picked three runners off base, and caught a line drive back to the mound, making him personally responsible for all 21 outs in the game. Most certainly this is the first time in ICL history this remarkable feat has ever occured. Nestor (5-1) allowed five hits and walked two. Jack Beverly’s homer keyed a three-run sixth inning for the Americans.

The Andre Chiefs rung out 13 hits on the way to a 10-1 victory over the E.I. Braves at Maplewood Tim Dunphy (4-1) went five innings to get the win. Hector Pellot (3-4, double, 3 RBI’s), Mitchell Schroeder (2-4, double, RBI), Teddy Dziuba (2-2, double) and Nick Valdario (2 RBI’s) led the offense. It was the Chiefs’ 11th straight win.

Brett Stone’s pinch hit two out single, in the bottom of the sixth inning, broke a 4-4 tie and gave the Blue Sox a 5-4 win over the Al Thomas A’s in Lexington. Nick Anderson drove in two runs with a third inning triple and Anderson Jimenez added two hits for the Sox. Mark Herlihy (1-0) picked up the relief win while Nate Hartley got the A’s side in order in the seventh to record his first save.

Louis Cespedes (5-1) struck out 11 and allowed just five hits to pitch the Middlesex Expos to a 3-2 win over the Boston Padres at East Boston Stadium.

In other games, the Boston Athletics doubled up the Stoneham Sabers 10-5 at Town Field in Dorchester and TJO Sports beat the Lexington Bulldogs 17-4 at Fallon Field in Roslindale,
