Costigan (8 RBI’s) Leads Americans 6 HR Barrage, Chiefs & Expos Win

Pat Costigan went 4-5, with two homers and a double, and knocked in an amazing eight runs, when the Melrose Americans beat the East Boston Knights 19-4 in West Roxbury on Monday night. Costigan was not alone in the Melrose home run parade as Chris Klein (4-5, 5 RBI’s, double) and John Jennings (3-3, 3 RBI’s) each hit two homers in the game. Combined the Costigan, Klein and Jennings trio went 11-13, knocked in 16 runs, and hit six homers in the game. Jennings leads the ICL with five round trippers. Brandon McMahon (3-1) struck out ten batters in six innings to give the Americans their third straight win.

The Andre Chiefs erased a 2-0 Boston Athletics lead, scoring six times in the bottom of the fourth inning, to come away with their 10th straight win 6-2 at Maplewood,  Silas Reed (5-0) stayed perfect on the year while winning his fifth decision in a row, The former Tufts University righty went five innings and allowed just one hit and struck out nine. Byron Woodman’s two run homer tied the game at two before Nate Witkowski (double), Emanuel Rosado (2 RBI’s) and Joe Bova and Miles Reid each knocked in a run to put the Chiefs ahead.

Idleson Tavares (4) and Eduardo Soto (3) combined to drive in seven runs to give the Middlesex Expos a 10-8 come from victory over the Brighton Black Sox at East Boston Stadium. The Expos trailed 8-5 before scoring twice in the bottom of the fifth and adding three more in the sixth to gain the win.
