Kirby No-Hits Maddogs, Bulldogs & Americans Gain Monday Wins

Zach Kirby fired a 16 K no-hitter when the Middlesex Expos shutout the Malden Maddogs 3-0 at Brandeis University. Hits were hard to come by in the game as the Maddogs trio of Jack McLaughlin, Mario Fusco and Ryne Rametta allowed just two hits. The Expos scored twice in the top of the fifth inning to secure the win.

Gabe Van Emon (2-0) struck out nine and allowed just two hits in five innings when the Reading Bulldogs edged the Andre Chiefs 3-2 at Maplewood. Van Emon outdueled the Chiefs’ Josh Desai (0-2) who didn’t allow an earned run and also struck out nine in his six innings. Graham Seed had a double and two hits for Reading while Andrew Caulfield and Ryan Noone drove in the Andre runs.

In Lexington, the Melrose Americans got three hits from Cory Bright, and two each from Pat Costigan, Gianni Zarrilli, Jack Beverly and Aidan Barry, to lead a 14 hit offensive and beat the Blue Sox 9-3. Ryan Joyce (1-0, 1.1 innings ) picked up the win. Joyce, starter Joe Maguire (2.2 innings), and Nick Colucci (2 innings), combined to hold the Blue Sox to just three hits. Pete John and Morgan Brown had RBI’s for Lexington. Starter Robbie Cobb (2-1) suffered his first loss of the season.
