Mitchell Improves to 3-0 for Melrose, Blue Sox & Reds Get 2-0 Wins on Sunday

Chris Mitchell upped his record to 3-0 when the Americans beat the Somerville Royals 9-3 in Melrose. Will Shakleford drove in four runs, Chris Hopkins and Charlie Heugi each had three hits, and Malcolm Machmanoff had a homer and two RBI’s to lead the Melrose 15 hit attack. James McConville and Jake Cintolo had homers for the Royals. Mitchell struck out six and allowed six hits in his six innings of work.

At Endicott, the Lexington Blue Sox shutout the Reading Bulldogs 2-0 with Kelvin Guzman (2-0) allowing four hits in six innings to record the win. Jeff Costello scored both Lexington runs. In the first he singled and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Alex Voitik. In the fifth Costello singled, stole second and scored on consecutive throwing errors by Reading.  Darren Hartwell had two hits for Reading.

In Sunday’s other game, the Watertown Reds went to 6-1 with a 2-0 win over the Arlington Trojans at Summer Street Field.

Blue Sox Edge Trojans 4-3 in Only Thursday Contest

Brady Furdon (1-0) went six innings to pick up the win, and veteran Matt Karis recorded the save, when the Blue Sox overcame a 3-1 third inning deficit to edge the Arlington Trojans 4-3 in Lexington. Thomas Russo provided the game winner when he delivered Julian Alvarez with a fifth inning sacrifice fly. Alex Irwin (0-1) took the loss for Arlington.

On Friday, the Trojans host the Somerville Royals at 7:00 PM at Summer Street Field and the Blue Sox visit the Watertown Reds at Victory Field in a 7:45 PM start.

Freni Gets 3rd Career No-Hitter in 3-0 Chiefs Win, Merchants Beat Bulldogs at Walsh

Four time ICL Pitcher of the Year Jared Freni threw his third career no-hitter when the Andre Chiefs beat the Melrose Americans 3-0 at Morelli Field on Wednesday. Freni struck out 14 and did not allow a ball to leave the infield. The Chiefs scored all of their runs in the top of the fourth inning when Mike Gedman and Peter Copa had RBI singles. Kyle Autilio (0-1) allowed only four hits, all in the Chiefs’ fourth, in his six innings of work, Freni, who now has a career 62-12 ICL record, previously threw no-hitters on June 12, 2013 in a 2-0 win against the Watertown Reds at Victory Field and on June 2, 2015 in a 3-0 win vs the Reading Bulldogs at Endicott College.

In Wakefield, the Merchants got two hits each from Bobby Losanno, Scott Searles, and Chris Butler on the way to an 8-5 win over the Reading Bulldogs at Walsh Field, Butler recorded three RBI’s and Losanno added a triple. Greg Johnson (2-0) picked up the win with Joseph Maguire chalking up his first save. Mike DeDonato went a perfect 4 for 4 and Darren Hartwell had three hits for the Bulldogs.

The Lexington Blue Sox host the Arlington Trojans at 8:00 PM in the only ICL game that is scheduled on Thursday.

Sullivan K’s 14 for Reds, Chiefs & Bulldogs Gain Monday Night Wins

2016 ICL Pitcher of the Year Bill Sullivan (2-0) struck out 14, and allowed just four hits, when the Watertown Reds beat the Blue Sox 4-1 in Lexington. The 5-1 Reds scored all of their runs in the top of third inning off Jimmy Hill (0-2) on RBI’s from Casey Santos Ocampo, Will Brennan, Dan Chaisson and Mike Samko. Julian Alvarez drove in the only Lexington run when the Blue Sox took a 1-0 first inning lead.

Josh Desai (1-0) and Andrew Chin combined on a four-hitter to lead the Andre Chiefs to a 3-1 win over the Melrose Americans at Maplewood. Chin went four innings, striking out four, and allowing four hits, while Desai didn’t surrender a hit and struck out four over the final three innings. Matt Nuzzo, with a solo homer, Mike Barbati and Shane Stande had the Chiefs’ RBI’s. The Americans’ duo of Shawn Smeglin and Zeke Berg only allowed three hits.

At Endicott College, veteran Johnny Hayes went 3 for 3, and Darren Hartwell added a couple of hits, when the Reading Bulldogs beat the Arlington Trojans 2-1 in eight innings. Colby Morris went the first five innings, striking out five, for the Bulldogs before giving way to Alex Mandrus and finally Max Mardany (1-0) , who went the final two innings to record the win. Andrew Hamel went the first six innings for the Trojans, before yielding to Evan Walsh (0-2) who took the loss. The Bulldogs outhit the Trojans 10-8 in the game and stole four bases.

The Somerville Royals host the Chiefs at Trum Field at 8:15 PM in the only ICL game that is scheduled for Tuesday.

Mitchell Throws Second Shutout for Americans, Reds Sweep Sunday Doubleheader

Chris Mitchell pitched his second consecutive complete game shutout, and Matt Hosman and Mike LaRovere drove in the runs, when the Melrose Americans beat the Reading Bulldogs 2-0 at Endicott College in Beverly. Mitchell, from Colby-Sawyer, has allowed just 10 hits and struck out 11 in his 14 innings so far this season.

In other Sunday action, the Watertown Reds swept a doubleheader from the Merchants in Wakefield, winning both games by a 4-3 score. More to come on these games.

On Monday, the Bulldogs host the Arlington Trojans at Endicott College at 8:00 PM, the Reds and Blue Sox play in Lexington at 8:00 PM, and the Americans travel to meet the Chiefs at Maplewood/Malden Catholic at 8:15 PM.

Arlington Nips Wakefield 7-6 in Lone Friday Contest

The Arlington Trojans rapped out a dozen hits to edge the Wakefield Merchants 7-6 at Summer Street Field in the only ICL game played on Friday night.

Ryan Hood, Mike Besozzi, and Jack Kingman each had two hits and Spencer Balian had three RBI’s for the Trojans. Jake Ryan (1-0) picked up the win in relief. Anthony Cecere had two hits, including a triple, and three RBI’s for the Merchants.

On Sunday, the Watertown Reds and the Merchants will meet in a doubleheader at Walsh Field in Wakefield beginning at 2:00 PM and the Melrose Americans visit the Reading Bulldogs at Endicott College in Beverly at 7:00 PM.

 

Chiefs Beat Reds 6-3, Blue Sox Get 3 HR’s in 13-1 Thursday Win at Trum

The Chiefs used three pitchers, Mitchell Clegg, Tim Dunphy, and Josh Desai, to beat the Reds in Watertown 6-3. Peter Copa and Matt Nuzzo each had 2 RBI’s as Dunphy (1-0) picked up the win. Will Brennan hit his second homer of the year for the Reds.

In Somerville, the Lexington Blue Sox got home runs from Taylor Ferguson, Alex Voitik, and Eduardo Soto to hammer the Royals 13-1 at Trum. Ryan Fillipowicz  (1-0) went five innings to get the win.

The Wakefield Merchants and Arlington Trojans meet at Summer Street Field in the only ICL game scheduled for Friday.

Bulldogs, Merchants & Reds Get Wednesday Wins

Kevin Marciano delivered the game winning single in the fifth inning, and Wayne Lundgren (1-0) got the win, when the Reading Bulldogs edged the Andre Chiefs 5-4 at Maplewood. Max Mardany picked up the two inning save.

In Wakefield, the Merchants scored seven unanswered runs, erasing a 4-0 Somerville Royals lead, on the way to a 7-4 win at Walsh. Bobby Lossano led the way at the plate for the Merchants with a double and triple. Greg Johnson (1-0) allowed three hits in five innings to record the win.

2016 ICL Pitcher of the Year Bill Sullivan (1-0) got the win and Dan Chassion (5 RBI’s) and Will Brennan both homered to lead the Reds to a 9-1 win over the Arlington Trojans at Victory Field.

The Lexington-Melrose game was postponed due to wet grounds at Morelli Field.

Two ICL games are scheduled for Thursday. The Chiefs meet the Reds at Victory Field in Watertown at 7:45 PM and the Blue Sox and Royals play at Trum Field in Somerville at 8:15 PM.

Blue Sox & Reds Get Sunday Road Wins

The Lexington Blue Sox and Watertown Reds both got road wins on Sunday.

In Arlington, Kelvin Guzman got the victory when the Blue Sox knocked off the Trojans 7-1 at Summer Street Field.

Dante Padovani threw a complete game four-hitter to lead the Reds to a 9-0 win over the Reading Bulldogs at Endicott College in Beverly.

Weather permitting, two ICL games are scheduled on Monday. The Wakefield Merchants visit the Americans at Morelli Field in Melrose at 7:30 PM and the Andre Chiefs host the Trojans at Maplewood Park (Malden Catholic) at 8:15 PM.

Americans & Trojans Get Opening Night Wins

The Melrose Americans got RBI’s from Nick Herzog, John Jennings, and Dave Center, to back the complete game four hit pitching of Chris Mitchell, and turn back the Blue Sox in Lexington 3-0 on Friday night.

In the only other opening night game, the Arlington Trojans scored four times in the bottom of the fifth inning, overcoming a 3-0 deficit, to edge the Reading Bulldogs 4-3 at Summer Street Field.

There are no ICL games scheduled on Saturday.
