Bulldogs & Blue Sox Take Monday Wins

The Reading Bulldogs scored single runs in each of the first three frames and Jack Wallace (2-1) struck out eight in five innings in a 3-2 win over the Melrose Americans at Morelli Field. Zac Tallis and Chris Bosco each had two hits for Reading while Darren Hartwell and Chris Webster both had RBI’s. Jack Theriault worked a scoreless sixth and Max Mardany struck out the side in the seventh to register his second save. Jackson Stanton drove in both of the Melrose runs with a fifth inning single. Shawn Smeglin (0-3) surrendered just one earned run in five innings but took the loss.

The Blue Sox came from behind, scoring a run in the third then adding four more in the fourth, on the way to a 6-3 win over the Andre Chiefs in Lexington.
Ross Curley had a double and a single along with two RBI’s to lead the Blue Sox. Jake Vesling (1-0) went five innings to get the win and Manny Delcarmen picked up his third save. Steve Passatempo and Ben Waldrip each smacked solo homers for the Chiefs. Zack Kirby (2-3) took the loss despite allowing just two earned runs and striking out eight.

On Tuesday, the Bulldogs host the Wakefield Merchants at Morton Field in Reading at 6:00 PM, Alibrandis entertains the Americans at Victory Field in Watertown and the Blue Sox visit the Malden Maddogs at Maplewood both at 7:45 PM.

The Chiefs-Somerville Royals game at Trum Field has been postponed and rescheduled for July 31 due to a field conflict. There is an ongoing Babe Ruth Tournament at the Somerville diamond this evening.

Blue Sox Edge Bulldogs 3-1 as ICL Play Resumes after Holiday Break

Drew Leenhouts, Borja Jones-Bersaluce and Manny Delcarmen combined on a four-hitter when the Lexington Blue Sox scored three times in the fourth inning and went on to beat the Bulldogs 3-1 in Reading. Leenhouts (1-0) got his first win of the season while Delcarmen chalked up his second save. Andrew Moccia (1-1) took the loss in relief of Gabe Van Emon for the Bulldogs who also allowed only four hits.

On Monday, the Americans host the Bulldogs in Melrose at 7:30 PM and the Andre Chiefs visit the Blue Sox at Lexington High at 8:00 PM.

Alibrandis, Bulldogs & Blue Sox Take Tuesday Wins

Matt Horan (1-1) went six strong innings to get win when Alibrandis beat the Andre Chiefs 6-2 at Victory Field. Juan Parra reached base three times and Dave Lightbody had a double and scored twice for the winners. R.J. Libby had a solo homer for the Chiefs while Jack Fargo (0-2) took the loss,

Darren Hartwell, Mike Taylor, Chris Webster and Matt DeBenedetto each drove in two runs when the Reading Bulldogs knocked off the Malden Bulldogs 10-7 at Maplewood. Jack Wallace (1-1) went four innings and picked up the win.

In Lexington, the Blue Sox erased a 2-0 fourth inning deficit and went on to beat the Somerville Royals 4-2. Dom Zaher’s two RBI double was the big hit when the Sox took the lead with three runs in the fifth. Matt Karis got the win while Manny Delcarmen recorded the save. Somerville jumped out to an early lead in the second inning on a two RBI double by Joe Ward.

Americans, Merchants & Blue Sox Kick-Off July with Wins

Ian Libby homered and had three RBI’s to lead the Americans to a 5-3 win over the Reading Bulldogs in Melrose. Mike Peters (1-0) went five innings to get the win. He had bullpen help from Shawn Smeglin and Chris Mitchell who worked 1.2 innings to record the save. Charlie Huegi added a double and a single while Josh Bohn and Dennis Crowley drove in the Americans’ other runs. Tyler Cedeno and Brendan McDonald each had two hits for the Bulldogs. Kyle Wollman (1-2) took the loss.

At Maplewood, the Wakefield Merchants got a two run homer from Bobby Losanno on the way to beating the Andre Chiefs 5-2. James McNamara (2-2) went 6.1 innings to get the win. Jon Luders added two hits including a double and an RBI and Chris Butler chipped in with a double and a single. Ben Waldrip gave the Chiefs a 1-0 lead in the first inning with his second homer of the year. Zach Kirby (2-2) took the loss despite striking out 13 batters in six innings while Mitchell Clegg struck out the side for the Chiefs in the seventh.

The Blue Sox made six runs in the third inning stand up in a 6-1 win over the Malden Maddogs in Lexington. Ross Curley led the way at the plate with a double and a single. Anderson Jimenez, Kyle Adie, Morgan Brown, Mitch Schroeder and Dom Zaher all drove in single runs for the Sox. Mike Geannelis (2-0) worked five innings and struck out seven to gain the win. Zak Levine (2-2) was tagged with the loss.

On Tuesday the Chiefs visit Alibrandis at Victory Field in Watertown and the Bulldogs meet the Maddogs at Maplewood, both at 7:45 PM. The Blue Sox host the Somerville Royals at Lexington High at 8:00 PM.

 

Alibrandis Beats Wakefield in Only Sunday Game Not PPD

Alibrandis beat the Wakefield Merchants 6-3 in a rain shortened five inning affair on Sunday at Walsh Field. It was the only ICL game that survived the torrential downpours. All other games, including the second game of the doubleheader at Walsh, were washed out. Jake Miller knocked in three of the runs while Brian Saffelle (1-0) got the win.

Three games are scheduled on Monday. The Melrose Americans host the Reading Bulldogs at Morelli at 7:30 PM, the Andre Chiefs play host to the Merchants at Maplewood at 8:00 PM, and the Malden Maddogs and the Blue Sox tangle in Lexington, also at 8:00 PM.
