Maddogs, Blue Sox & Expos Grab Wednesday Wins

Jared Berardino hit his second homer of the season and C.J. Barrett, Zak Levine (1-0), and Dylan Sbordone combined on a three-hitter when the Malden Maddogs broke into the win column with an 11-1 win over the Melrose Americans at Morelli Field on Wednesday night. The Maddogs banged out a dozen hits as Jason Giangrande (1-1) took the loss.

The Blue Sox tallied seven times in the bottom of the fifth inning on the way to a 9-1 win over Alibrandis in Lexington. Ryan O’Rourke (2-0) struck out 12 in six innings to gain the win. Dom Zaher and Brendan Jones each drove in a couple of runs to lead the Lexington offense. Paul Frisoli (1-2), in relief of Yohandry Perez, took the loss.

In Somerville, Zach Kirby (2-1) gave up just four hits and struck out 12, in his six innings of work, when the Middlesex Expos beat the Reading Bulldogs 13-1 at Trum Field. Andrew Mazzone led the Expos at the plate with a 3-4 night that included a homer, double and four RBI’s.

On Thursday the Andre Chiefs and the Maddogs hook up at Maplewood (Malden Catholic) in the lone ICL game on the schedule.

Melrose Americans

Americans Blank Maddogs 3-0, Three ICL Games Scheduled for Wednesday

Joe Maguire (1-0) tossed four strong innings of one-hit ball, striking out three, to lead the Melrose Americans to a 3-0 win over the Malden Maddogs at Maplewood. Nick Cortese led the Americans offense with two hits and an RBI. Josh Bohn and John Jennings drove in the other Melrose runs. Bobby Tramondozzi worked the final inning and a third to record his second save. Meridius Pendell (0-3) allowed just two hits in four innings but took the loss.

Tuesday’s Alibrandis at Reading Bulldogs game, scheduled for Austin Prep, was postponed due to a field conflict with an Austin Prep tournament game.

On Wednesday, the Maddogs and Americans switch venues and meet at Morelli Field at 7:30 PM, Alibrandis visits the Blue Sox in Lexington at 8:00 PM, and the Middlesex Expos host the Bulldogs at Trum Field at 8:30 PM.

Tarlin Leads Reading to 9-2 Win, Monday’s Alibrandis at Lexington-PPD Rain

Max Tarlin pitched five strong innings, allowing no earned runs and striking out six, when the Reading Bulldogs beat the Malden Maddogs 9-2 on Sunday at Morton Field. Tarlin, was just as efficient at the plate, adding two hits and driving in three runs. Zac Wilis went two for two with an RBI, scored three runs and stole three bases for the Bulldogs.

Monday’s Alibrandis at Lexington game has been postponed due to rain.

Alibrandis Visits Lexington on Monday at 8:00 PM

Alibrandis visits the Lexington Blue Sox tonight at 8:00 PM in the only game on the ICL schedule.

Expos Edge Alibrandis 2-1 in 27 Strikeout Extravaganza at Trum

The Middlesex Expos erased a 1-0 Alibrandis first inning lead, scoring single runs in both the fourth and fifth innings, to take a 2-1 win on Friday night at Trum Field in Somerville.

The game featured a combined 27 strikeouts. Expos’ winner David Kerns (2-0) struck out 10 and allowed just three hits. Alibrandis’ Paul Frisoli (1-1) was the hard luck loser striking out 17 batters and allowing just five hits.

There are no ICL games on Saturday.

On Sunday, the Reading Bulldogs host the Malden Maddogs at Reading High School’s Morton Field at 5:00 PM.

Kirby K’s 18 Batters in 2-0 Expos Win, Bulldogs-Blue Sox Suspended in Lexington

Former Framingham State righty Zach Kirby (1-1) tossed a one-hitter, striking out 18 batters, when the Middlesex Expos shutout the Andre Chiefs 2-0 at Trum Field on Thursday night.

Kirby was overpowering all game long, striking out the side in the second, third, fourth, sixth, and seventh innings. The only hit he allowed was a Gino DeSimone two out double in the top of the fourth inning.

The Expos scored their runs on a first inning RBI single from Andrew Mazzone and a single by Matt Ferro and a Bret Samboy double in the sixth.

Tim Dunphy (0-1) worked the first three innings for the Chiefs allowing one run. Jonathan Richard held the Expos scoreless in the fourth and fifth frames before giving way to Silas Reed in the sixth.

In Lexington, the Reading Bulldogs-Blue Sox game was suspended in the second inning due to a power failure.

The Expos and Alibrandis meet on Friday night at Trum in the only game on the ICL schedule.

Americans, Blue Sox & Expos Win on Wednesday

Bobby Losanno, Scott Searles and Noah Jankowski all homered when the Americans came from behind to knock off the Reading Bulldogs 5-2 on Wednesday night in Melrose. Mike Andrews (1-0) went the first 5.1 innings, allowing three hits and striking out two, to pick up the win while Bobby Tramondozzi got his first save. Conor Gaughen (1-1) took the loss for the Bulldogs.

The Lexington Blue Sox scored twice in the fifth then added four more runs in the top of the seventh to draw away from the Andre Chiefs 8-1 at Maplewood. Julian Alvarez led the way with a double, single, and three RBI’s while Jose Feliciano and Will Potdevin each had two hits and two RBI for Lexington. Ryan O’Rourke (1-0) allowed two hits and struck out eight in five innings. Evan Walsh (0-1) had nine K’s and surrendered just three hits in four innings but was tagged with the loss.

The Middlesex Expos used a leadoff homer from Jose Paulino and got 4.2 innings of two hit, seven strikeout pitching from Ryan Qualey (1-0), to beat the Malden Maddogs 3-1 at Trum Field. Dan Shaw picked up the seventh inning save.

Two games are on Thursday’s ICL slate. The Blue Sox host Reading in Lexington at 8:00 PM and the Chiefs travel to Trum to meet the Expos in an 8:30 PM start.

Blue Sox and Alibrandis Get Tuesday ICL Wins

The Blue Sox erupted for nine second inning runs and went on to beat the Melrose Americans 12-5 in Lexington on Tuesday night. Alez Krylov, with a bases clearing double, and Brendan Jones, with a single, double, and a couple of RBI’s, led the Lexington offense. Jack Schwartz (1-0) picked up the win. Bobby Losanno had three hits and three RBI’s for the Americans.

In Tuesday’s other game, Alibrandis knocked off the Malden Maddogs 9-1 at Trum Field in Somerville. Gordie Gronkowski and Charlie Auditore knocked in a two runs each as Evan Christoplos (1-0) went five innings to get the win.

On Wednesday, the Americans host the Reading Bulldogs at Morelli Field in Melrose at 7:30 PM, the Blue Sox meet the Andre Chiefs at Maplewood (Malden Catholic) at 8:15 PM, and the Maddpgs and Middlesex Expos play at Trum at 8:30 PM.

Alibrandis, Expos & Chiefs Grab Sunday Wins

Bentley University’s Jared Brooks (pictured) struck out 10 and allowed just three hits to pitch Alibrandis to a complete game 2-0 shutout win over the Melrose Americans at Morelli Field. Kyle Halloran, Kenny Polanco and Joe Boushell each had two hits each for Alibrandis. Four Melrose pitchers, Joe Maguire, Mike Peters, Colin Jaena (0-1) and Bobby Tranondozzi allowed just six hits.

Bret Samboy’s RBI single in the top of the ninth inning broke a 1-1 tie and sent the Middlesex Expos to a 2-1 extra inning win over the Reading Bulldogs in the first ICL game ever played at Austin Prep. Scott Hall went the first six innings for Middlesex allowing just one hit and striking out ten. David Kerns (1-0) picked up the win with two innings of relief while Ryan Qualey got his first save.

Graham Seed (2-0) and Luke Gustavson combined on a neat four-hitter, striking out eleven, and the Andre Chiefs erupted for eight first inning runs on the way to an 11-3 win over the Malden Maddogs at Trum Field. Mitch Schroeder led the Chiefs’ twelve hit attack going a perfect four for four including a double and two RBI.

There are no ICL games scheduled on Monday.

Blue Sox Hold Off Alibrandis, Expos Edge Americans 4-3 in Friday Action

Luke Hall drove in two runs and Dom Zaher added an RBI to lead the Blue Sox to a 3-2 win over Alibrandis at Lexington High. Pat McGowan (1-0) went five innings to get the win and Brett Parker and Jack Schwartz threw a scoreless frame each to preserve the lead. Sean Sullivan (0-1) pitched well for Alibrandis but took the loss.

The Middlesex Expos recorded their first ICL win in a 4-3 victory over the Melrose Americans at Trum Field. Cam Monagle (1-0) struck out 11 and allowed six hits over six innings to record the win while Dane Lebert got the save. Jose Paulino with two hits and an RBI and Andrew Mazzone, with a triple and two RBI’s, led the Middlesex offense. John Jennings went 3 for 3 with an RBI for the Americans.

ICL play resumes on Sunday with three games. The Americans host Alibrandis at Morelli Field in Melrose at 4:00 PM, the Expos visit the Reading Bulldogs at Austin Prep at 5:00 PM, and the Andre Chiefs and Malden Maddogs tangle at Trum Field in Somerville at 8:30 PM.
