Pitching Key to Tuesday Wins for Alibrandis, Chiefs & Reds

Chris Costa (2-1) allowed just one hit in six innings, striking out nine, and Lamarre Rey got the save, when Alibrandis shutout the Malden Maddogs 1-0 at Maplewood. Juan Parra had two of Alibrandis three hits. Former Bentley University lefty Evan Walsh (2-2) struck out 13 batters in six innings, allowing just two infield hits, and the Andre Chiefs got homers from Matt Nuzzo (5 RBI’s), Johnny Welch (3 RBI’s) and Leivi Ventura (2 RBI’s) to beat the Somerville Royals 15-0 at Trum. Worth Walrod raised his record to 5-1 with a complete game five-hitter, and the Reds got homers from Dan Chaisson and Mike Samko, to beat the Reading Bulldogs 5-2 in Watertown. Mike Taylor had two of the Bulldogs’ hits.

Blue Sox Win 9-1, Bulldogs Beat Americans in 17-8 Slugfest

Gray Goolsby, Morgan Brown and Julian Alvarez paced the Blue Sox offense in a 9-1 win over the Malden Maddogs on Monday night in Lexington. The Blue Sox had nine players get a hit in the game. Tony Annino got the win and improved to 3-0 on the year. The lefty went four innings and allowed just one unearned run. The Reading Bulldogs scored 15 runs over the last four innings to take a 17-8 win over the Melrose Americans at Morelli Field. Darren Hartwell, Tyler Cedeno and Mike Taylor with three hits each, and Kyle Brennan with a homer, led the Reading 18 hit offense. Jack Theriault (2-0) picked up the win. John Jennings had two doubles and drove home five runs for the Americans.

Blue Sox, Americans & Bulldogs Grab Sunday Afternoon Wins

Justin Silvestro had three hits and three RBI’s to lead the Lexington Blue Sox to a 7-3 win over the Merchants in Wakefield.  Aaron Barbosa added two hits, scored two runs, and made three outstanding catches in centerfield. Nick Godfroy (1-1) earned the win, pitching two innings in relief, striking out tw0. Torrid Dillon Koster (25-41, .610) had two more hits and two RBI’s while Mike Sorrentino added three hits for Wakefield. The Melrose Americans scored five times in the top of the sixth inning to come from behind and turn back the Somerville Royals 8-5 at Trum Field. Matt Hosman with three hits and Charlie Huegi with a couple of RBI’s led the Americans’ offense. Mike Peters (1-1) got the win while Aran Hamilton-Grenham recorded the save. Darren Hartwell had two triples and Jeff Roy added two hits when the Bulldogs scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to walk off with a 5-4 seesaw win over the Watertown Reds in Reading. Ben Gottesman (1-0) got the win in relief of Cam Lanzilli who worked the first 7.1 innings.

Lightbody, Rey Give Alibrandis 2-1 Nine Inning Win Over Americans

Dave Lightbody’s walk off two run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning gave Alibrandis a 2-1 come from behind win over the Melrose Americans on Friday night at Maplewood. Lightbody’s homer backed the pitching of Lamarre Rey who went all nine innings and allowed six hits while striking out 15. Dan Cacciola gave the Americans a 1-0 lead in the top of the ninth. Chris Mitchell put the Americans in positon to win with 7.1 innings of shutout ball. Shawn Smeglin (1-1) came on in the eighth and ninth and took the loss. It was the only ICL game played on Friday.

Walk-Off Wins on Monday for Blue Sox & Chiefs

Ross Curley’s walk off grand slam home run delivered a 9-5 win for the Blue Sox over the Watertown Reds on Monday night in Lexington. Alex Voitik hit a three run homer in the first for Lexington. Watertown took a 4-3 lead in the 5th on Dan Chaisson’s two run double. Blase Cormier scored on a wild pitch in the 6th to give the Reds a 5-4 lead. Worth Walrod pitched 6.2 innings and took his first loss of the season. He struck out eight. Former Boston Red Sox righthander Manny Delcarmen pitched the 7th inning, striking out two, to record his first ICL win. The Andre Chiefs got key late inning doubles from Johnny Welch and Danny DiMare, then saw Shane Stande draw a bases loaded walk in the ninth inning, to come from behind and beat the Melrose Americans at Maplewood 5-4. Dave Center hit his third home of the year in the sixth inning to give the Americans a 4-2 lead. Welch drove in three runs with a sacrifice fly and his two run game tying double in the bottom of the seventh. David Kerns (2-1) got the win with two innings of scoreless relief.

Bulldogs Shutout Chiefs 1-0, Reds-Merchants Split Doubleheader

Alex Mandrus (2-1) tossed five innings of two-hit baseball, and Kyle Wollman chalked up the save, when the Bulldogs blanked the Chiefs 1-0 in Reading. Luke Hall scored the game’s only run on a wild pitch in the third inning. Joey Hodapp had two of the Bulldogs’ five hits off Evan Walsh (1-2). Erick Ramirez had two of the Chiefs’ four hits. The Watertown Reds and Wakefield Merchants split a doubleheader at Walsh Field. The Reds took the opener 3-2 with Merchants coming back in the nightcap 7-6.

Doubleheader in Wakefield, Chiefs at Bulldogs on Sunday, 2 Games Monday Ahead of 4th of July Break

A doubleheader in Wakefield and a single game in Reading on Sunday, and two more games on Monday, are on the schedule ahead of the ICL’s annual Fourth of July Break which begins on Tuesday. On Sunday, the Watertown Reds and the Merchants will meet in a twinbill at Walsh Field in Wakefield begining at 2:00 PM and the Reading Bulldogs will host the Andre Chiefs at Morton Field (Reading HS) starting at 5:00 PM. On Monday, the Melrose Americans and the Chiefs meet at Maplewood and the Reds and Blue Sox play in Lexington. Both of Monday’s games start at 8:00 PM. No ICL games are scheduled for Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday.

Chiefs, Royals, Reds & Blue Sox Take Wednesday Wins

The Andre Chiefs scored nine runs in the last two innings to pull away from the Merchants in Wakefield 11-5. Kyle Dembrowski, with a grand slam and a single, and Andrew Caulfield with three hits, led the Chiefs 14 hit offense. Paul McGunigle and Joe Barry each had two hits and an RBI for the Merchants. David Kerns (1-1) picked up his first ICL win in relief of Jared Freni. The Somerville Royals came from behind to score four times in the top of the seventh then held on to beat the Melrose Americans 5-4 at Morelli Field. It was a brothers act for the Royals on the mound as Paul Covelle (2-0) got the win and brother Ryan picked up the save. Edaurdo Soto led the Royals offense with three hits that included a double and two RBI’s. John Jennings had a double and two RBI and Dave Center and Will Shackelford two hits each for Melrose. In Watertown, the Reds overcame a 2-0 first inning deficit to come from behind and edge the Malden Maddogs 3-2. Dan Chaisson had two hits and an RBI and Jake Miller a solo homer for the Reds. Worth Walrod stayed perfect raising his record to 4-0 and Pat Maher recorded his second save. Taylor Ferguson’s homer in the bottom of the seventh allowed the Blue Sox to walk off with a 3-2 win over Alibrandis in Lexington. Veteran Dave Lightbody gave Alibrandis a 2-1 in the top of the sixth with a solo homer. The Blue Sox tied things up in the bottom of the inning and then won it in the seventh. CJ McKinnit picked up the win getting the Alibrandis side in order in the top of the inning. Chris Costa (1-1) took the loss in relief of Sean Sullivan.

Americans Win, Alibrandis Walk-Off, Bulldogs Shutout Royals

Kyle Autilio (3-1) tossed six innings of four hit ball, and Jamie Weiss picked up the save, when the Melrose Americans beat the Malden Maddogs 4-2 at Maplewood.  John Jennings led the way for the Americans with three hits while Will Shackelford had two hits and two RBI’s. Albrandis got a ninth inning single from Juan Parra to walk off with a 3-2 win over the Andre Chiefs. James Cramphin (1-0) got the win with three innings of relief. Mitchell Clegg worked the first eight innings for the Chiefs and struck out 10. David Kerns (0-1) came on in the ninth and took the loss. In Somerville, the Reading Bulldogs made three fifth inning runs stand in a 3-0 shutout win over the Royals at Trum.  Steve Busby (2 RBI’s) and Darren Hartwell drove in the Bulldogs’ runs. Jack Burke (1-0), Zak Levine, and Ben Gottesman combined on the five hit shutout. Soren Hanson (0-2) took the loss while striking out seven in his six innings of work.
