Jennings Leads Americans, Parra Paces Chiefs to Thursday Wins
John Jennings went 3-4, including a homer and four RBI’s, to lead the Melrose Americans to a 7-3 win over the Sabertooth Expos on Thursday night at Maplewood. Pat Costigan and Ian Libby (double) added two hits each to bolster the Americans’ 10 hit offense. Andrew Mazzone had a solo homer and Michael Oliveira knocked in a couple of runs for the Expos. Michael Nestor (1-0) went 4.1 innings to get the win, getting relief help from Will Gindel (0.2 innings) and Nick Colucci, who chalked up the two inning save. Ryan Cloutier (0-1) got the loss.
In Lexington, torrid leadoff man Juan Parra (3-4, double, 2 RBI’s), Andrew Caulfield ( 2-3, double, 3 RBI’s) and Teddy Dziuba (2-3, 2 RBI’s) led the Andre Chiefs to a 10-5 win over the Lexington Bulldogs. It was an all southpaw effort from the Chiefs’ pitching staff as Josh Desai (2-0) got the win with assistance from Jonathan Chotkowski (2 innings) and veteran Jonathan Richard, who worked a scoreless seventh. Drew Crowley (1-2) took the loss. Parra raised his ICL best average to .553 (21-38) and leads the circuit in hits (21) and runs scored (17).
The ICL now takes their annual 4th of July break. Play will resume on Wednesday, July 5.
