Alibrandis Beats Blue Sox 4-1, Bulldogs Sweep Chiefs

Matt Horan (3-3) struck out 11 batters and went the distance to pitch Alibrandis past the Blue Sox 4-1 in Lexington. Bobby Barrett tripled home two runs and Teddy Dziuba and David Lightbody each had RBI singles.

At Maplewood, the Reading Bulldogs took both ends of a doubleheader from the Andre Chiefs 4-0 and 5-1. Anthony Sapenza (1-2) struck out nine and allowed only three hits in the opener. Chris Bosco led the way with three hits, including a double, and two RBI’s. In the nightcap, Andrew Moccia (2-2) surrendered just five hits in six innings to get the win. Chris Bosco, Mike Taylor and Copper Marengi all had RBI’s and Darren Hartwell added two hits for the winners.

Sunday’s ICL Highlights: Bulldogs Win, Merchants Split Three Team DH at Walsh

Zac Talis and Dan Baker both homered when the Reading Bulldogs beat the Soemrville Royals 9-7 in nine innings at Trum. Brendan McDonald added two hits, including a double, and two RBI’s for the Bulldogs. Max Mardany (2-0) struck out four and didn’t allow a hit over the final two innings to grab the win.

In Wakefield, the Merchants split a three team doubleheader, losing to Alibrandis in the opener 5-2 and then came back to beat the Melrose Americans 3-0 in game two.

Stanley DeMartinis had homer and four RBI’s to lead Alibrandis to the afternoon win. Ryan Corriveau (6-1) picked up the win going five innings while Anthony DelPrete chalked up the save.

Joseph Maguire (6-3) fired a complete game five-hitter to lead the Merchants to the 3-0 game two win over the Americans. Jon Luders and Bobby Losanno had two hits each for the Merchants. Ian Libby had two of the Americans’ five hits.

On Monday the Chiefs host the Bulldogs in a doubleheader at Maplewood starting at 6:45 PM and Alibrandis visits the Blue Sox in Lexington at 8:00 PM.

Austin Masel Wins Cape Cod League’s 10th Player Award

Congratulations to Melrose Americans’ Austin Masel who received the Manny Robello 10th player award in the Cape Cod League this summer. The outfielder played with the Falmouth Commodores and batted .371.

Masel began his ICL career with the Americans in 2014 and has appeared in 67 games for the Melrose club over that time span.

Austin is the son of 2013 ICL Hall of Fame inductee Alex Masel.

He will be entering his senior year at Holy Cross this Fall.

Merchants Win 9-4 in Lone Friday Game

Tyler Lyne  had three hits and a couple of RBI’s to lead the Wakefield Merchants to a 9-4 win over the Maddogs in Malden. It was the only ICL game scheduled on Friday. Mike Sorrentino and Jon Luders each chipped in with two hits and Dillon Koster had two RBI’s to pace the Merchants’ 11 hit offense. Mike Andrews (2-1) allowed six hits in six innings to get the win.

Blue Sox Clinch Share of ICL Pennant, Royals Walk off with 4-3 Win

The Lexington Blue Sox moved to 19-4-1, and clinched at least a share of first place, in a 5-2 win over the Andre Chiefs at Maplewood. Junior Pena (2-0) picked up the win allowing five hits and striking out eight in five innings. Jake Vesling struck out four in two innings as the Blue Sox duo combined for a dozen K’s. Julian Alvarez went a perfect 4 for 4 with a double and an RBI and Morgan Brown added three hits and a couple of RBI’s. Tony Serino had three of the Chiefs’ nine hits. Tim Dunphy (3-3) allowed only one earned run in five innings but took the loss.

Blaise Cormier had three RBI’s, and Graham Smith and John Collette had two hits each, when the Somerville Royals walked off with a 4-3 win over the Malden Maddogs in a game that was played at Lexington High. Jonathan Richard (2-5) got the win with two innings of work in relief of starter Cal Carroll. Malden’s Logan Gillis (0-1) was tagged with the loss.
