Eastern Mass. All Star Classic Scoreboard

SATURDAY, JULY 8 at Monan Field, Boston, MA GAME ONE: Cranberry League 8, Intercity League 7-  FINAL (Cranberry League overcomes a 7-0 deficit, scoring 3 runs in bottom of the 7th, to advance) GAME TWO: Yawkey League 5, Boston Park League 0 (8 innings) – FINAL (Yawkey League scores 5 runs in the top of the 8th inning to advance to championship game) CHAMPIONSHIP: Yawkey League 4, Cranberry League 3 – FINAL (Yawkey League wins Eastern Mass. All-Star Classic, Juan Parra, Somerville Alibrandis MVP)

Information on Video Broadcast of Saturday’s EMass All-Star Classic

Saturday’s Eastern Mass. All-Star Classic will broadcast by Local Sports Productions live from Monan Field in Boston. The broadcast will begin at 12:55 PM. The ICL will meet the Cranberry League at 1:00 PM with the Yawkey League and Boston Park League playing at 4:00 PM. The winners of the first two games will meet for the championship at 7:30 PM. The games can be seen on Local Sports Productions, with Sam Feeley,  on the internet at: Live Sports  

Merchants’ Maguire throws 2-Hitter, Desai K’s 14 for Chiefs, Bulldogs Win

Joseph Maguire (1-1)  tossed a two-hit shutout, striking out nine, when the Wakefield Merchants shutout the Americans 4-0 in Melrose. Scott Searles (2-4, double), Bobby Losano, Mark Webber and Vin Nardone, knocked in the Wakefield runs. In Somerville, lefty Josh Desai (2-0) struck out 14 batters to lead the Andre Chiefs to a 6-2 win over the Royals at Trum Field. Matt Nuzzo and Mike Burgoyne each had two hits and an RBI for the Chiefs. Wagner Gomez had a couple of hits and knocked in a run for the Royals. The Reading Bulldogs got two hits each from Corey DiLoreto, Chris Bosco, Steve Busby, and Chris Seidl to edge the Watertown Reds 7-6 at Victory Field. Jack Theriault (2-2) picked up the win with 2.2 innings of relief.

ICL all-stars to Compete in Eastern Mass. Classic on Saturday

The 6th Annual Eastern Massachusetts Amateur Baseball Classic will be Saturday, July 8th at Monan Park at UMass Boston.  This event will feature All Star teams from each of the four amateur baseball leagues in the Boston area: Boston Park League, Cranberry League, Intercity League, Yawkey League. The tournament will be a one day event battling for the Louis T. DiTullio Memorial Trophy. Monan Park is one of the top field-turf facilities in all of  baseball.  An exact replica of the historic Fenway Park, Monan Park features its own Green Monster, which stands 27 feet high, and stretches the entire length of left field.  The field turf allows play in almost any type of weather. The pitcher’s mound is the same red clay used at Fenway Park, and is maintained by a professional trained staff.  The stadium seats up to 500 fans and features a full working press box.  The entire stadium is painted green just like its big brother Fenway, and is truly the gem of New England baseball. The address of Monan Park, which is located adjacent to BC High and UMass-Boston, is: 150 William T. Blue Sox, Reds, Merchants & Royals Get Wednesday Wins

Matt Karis threw six shutout innings and Jeff Costello had four RBI’s when the Blue Sox shutout the Arlington Trojans 11-0 in Lexington. At Maplewood, Matt Horan raised his record to 4-0 when the Watertown Reds blanked the Andre Chiefs 10-0. Dan Chaisson had two doubles, and Justin Forman and Mike Samko had two hits each, for the Reds. In Wakefield, Bobby Losano, Mark Webber, and Mike Sorrentino had three hits each when the Merchants beat the Reading Bulldogs 7-4. Steve Xirinachs (2-1) picked up the win. Wagner Gomez and Luke Ronchi both hit homers and Jake Cintolo added three hits in the Somerville Royals 9-3 win over the Melrose Americans. Soren Hanson (1-0) recorded the win.

Horan Throws No-Hitter for Reds, Game Suspended in 7th Inning in Lexington

Matt Horan threw  a no-hitter when the Reds edged the Arlington Trojans 1-0 in Watertwon. Horan was perfect through 5 and 2/3’s and gave up just one walk on the night. It was the Reds fist no-hitter since Scott Lueders no-hit the Mooney Dental Tanners on June 9th, 2014. The game was completed in just one hour and 25 minutes. Kyle Lavigne had all three of Watertown’s hits and scored on a groundout by Will Brennan in the first inning. Horan raised his record to 3-0 on the season. Due to issues with the water sprinkler system in Lexington, Thursday’s Andre Chiefs at Lexington Blue Sox game was suspended. The game was stopped in the bottom of the seventh inning with the Chiefs leading 4-2. The Chiefs scored three runs in the top of the seventh to take the 4-2 lead. At the time the game was suspended, Thomas Russo was batting with a 1-2 count, 0 outs, and nobody on base. The game will be resumed at that point at a date to be announced.

Freni K’s 16 for Chiefs, Smeglin Sharp for Melrose, Blue Sox & Merchants Win

Jared Freni struck out 16 batters and fired a two-hitter when the Chiefs beat the Somerville Royals 8-1 on Wednesday at Maplewood. Mike Andre went 3-4 and added four RBI’s, Peter Copa 2-3 with two RBI’s, and Johnny Welch had two doubles for the Chiefs. Freni raised his record to 3-1 with the win. Kyle Devin drove in Nick Herzog in the bottom of the first inning with the game’s only run when the Americans shutout the Arlington Trojans 1-0 at Morelli. Shawn Smeglin (1-1) allowed just three hits in six innings to record the win. Mike Peters worked the seventh to pick up his first save. In Lexington, Edaurdo Soto delivered a bases loaded single in the bottom of the eighth inning when the Blue Sox walked off with a 4-3 extra inning win over the Reading Bulldogs. Jeff Blout (1-0) picked up the win in relief of Kelvin Guzman. The Wakefield Merchants overcame a 7-1 third inning deficit when they scored nine unanswered runs, including eight in the top of the fifth inning, on the way to a 10-7 win over the Reds in Watertown. Bobby Losanno led the way at the plate with three hits while Scott Searles and Dillion Koster added two each. The Reds built their lead on home runs from Dan Chaisson and Chris Lanzilli. Steve Keskinidis (2-0) got the win and Joseph Maguire recorded his third save.  

Thunderstorms PPD Tuesday’s Lexington at Somerville Contest

Heavy thunderstorms in Somerville have postponed Tuesday’s Blue Sox at Royals game that was scheduled for Trum Field 8:15 PM. It was the only game on tonight’s ICL slate. No make-up date has been announced.

Bulldogs, Royals & Merchants Get Monday Night Wins

The Reading Bulldogs scored seven runs in the top of the 6th inning, breaking open a 3-3 game, on the way to a 10-3 win over the Americans in Melrose. Ryan Wolfsberg hit a homer, and Nick Berno, Kevin Marciano, Chris Bosco, Rosario Missiti and Corey DiLoreto each had two hits for the Bulldogs. Kyle Devin had a home run for the Americans. Max Mardany (2-0) picked up the win. Jonathan Richard tossed a complete game five-hitter when the Somerville Royals edged the Watertown Reds 2-1 at Victory Field. Chris Esposito and Nick Valdario had the RBI’s for the Royals. Richard (1-2) struck out four. At Maplewood, the Wakefield Merchants scored six times in the top of the first inning to beat the Andre Chiefs 6-3. Mike Sorrentino had a perfect 3 for 3 night at the plate, Scott Searles added two hits, and Mark Webber and Josh Band each had two RBI’s for the Merchants. Andrew Auld (1-0) went five innings to get the win. The Lexington Blue Sox visit the Royals at Trum Field in Somerville at 8:15 PM in the only ICL game that is scheduled for Tuesday.

Blue Sox Win in Wakefield, Royals Shutout Trojans, Bulldogs Top Americans

Thomas Russo had three hits, Ross Curley and Dorian Rojas two each, and Justin Silvestro and Alex Voitik a couple of RBI’s apiece, when the Lexington Blue Sox beat the Merchants 10-2 in Wakefield. The Blue Sox broke open a 2-2 fifth inning tie by scoring three times in the the sixth and then added five more runs in the seventh. Borja Jones-Berasaluce (1-0) picked up the win in relief of veteran Matt Karis. In Somerville, Wyatt Stanley (1-0), Paul Pollano, and Soren Hanson combined on a two-hitter when the Royals edged the Arlington Trojans 1-0 at Trum Field. Sean Harrington drove in Brian Campbell in the bottom of the fourth inning with the game’s only run. At Endicott College, Colby Morris (2-1) went six innings to get the win, and Max Mardany picked up his second save, when the Reading Bulldogs topped the Melrose Americans 3-1.  Ryan Wolfsberg knocked in a couple of runs for Reading and Chris Bosco drove in the third run. Kyle Autilio (0-2) pitched well for the Americans but took the loss.
