Blue Sox Edge Bulldogs 2-1, Americans Get 7th Straight in 9-4 Win Over Chiefs

Luke Hall and Will Potdevin had first inning RBI’s when the Lexington Blue Sox edged the Reading Bulldogs in a game that was switched to Austin Prep on Monday night. Robbie Cobb (1-2) got the win in relief of starter Matt Karis while Manny Delcarmen recorded his second save of the season. The game ended on an unassisted double play by first baseman Josue Feliciano with the tying run on third. Gabe Van Emon (2-2) took the loss.

At Maplewood, the Americans stayed hot and won their seventh in a row with a 9-4 win over the Andre Chiefs. Mike Sorrentino went 3-4 with three RBI’s and Josh Bosh had a double, single, and scored two runs to lead the Americans at the plate. Chris Mitchell (2-2) went four innings to gain the win. Andrew Caulfield homered for the Chiefs while Evan Walsh (0-3) got the loss.

On Tuesday, the Blue Sox and Bulldogs do it again at Austin Prep at 6:45 PM, Alibrandis hosts the Malden Maddogs at Victory Field in Watertown at 7:30 PM, and the Middlesex Expos meet the Chiefs at Trum Field in Somerville at 8:30 PM.

Americans Win 5-2, Frisoli (15 K’s) 3-Hits Middlesex in 5-1 Alibrandis Win

Bobby Losanno had a double, two singles, two RBI, and stole four bases, to lead the Melrose Americans to a 5-2 win over the Reading Bulldogs in a make-up game played Friday at Austin Prep. It was the Americans’ sixth straight win. Colin Jaena (2-1) went four innings to get the win while Bobby Tramondozzi picked up his fourth save. Tyler Cedeno had two doubles for the Bulldogs.

Paul Frisoli threw a complete game three-hitter, striking out 15, when Alibrandis knocked off the Middlesex Expos 5-1 at Trum. Michael Maguire had three of Alibrandis ten hits while Gordie Gronkowski, Ted Zupkus and Tyler Ferdinand all had doubles.

There are no ICL games scheduled on Saturday.

Dunphy Pitches Chiefs to 1-0 Win Over Middlesex Expos

Lefty Tim Dunphy (1-2) threw a complete game three-hitter when the Andre Chiefs edged the Middlesex Expos 1-0 at Maplewood on Thursday night. Adam Johnson scored the game’s only run in the bottom of the fourth when he reached on an error and scored on Joe Bova’s RBI single. Dunphy faced just three batters in six of the seven innings as the Chiefs turned two double plays and picked a runner off. Ryan Qualey (1-1) was the hard luck loser as he allowed just two hits, struck out nine, and gave up one unearned run.

On Friday, the Reading Bulldogs host the Melrose Americans in a make-up game at Austin Prep at 6:45 PM and Expos host Alibrandis at Trum Field in Somerville at 8:30 PM.

Blue Sox Shutout Expos 12-0, Americans Win 5th Straight

Southpaw Ryan O’Rourke (5-0) allowed just four hits and struck out 11 in six innings when the Blue Sox cruised past the Middlesex Expos 12-0 in Lexington on Wednesday night. The Blue Sox broke open a 2-0 game when they scored five times in each of the fifth and sixth innings. Dahiandy Johnson had a three-run homer in the fifth and Ryan Grace added a two RBI double in the sixth. Dan Shaw (0-1) took the loss.

In Melrose, the Americans erased a 3-1 fifth inning Andre Chiefs lead and went on to a 6-4 win at Morelli Field. Pat Costigan homered, Keenan O’Connor had two RBI’s, and leadoff man Bobby Losanno added a couple of hits for the Americans who won their fifth straight. Nick Colucci (1-0), in relief of Brendan McSorley, worked 1.2 innings to get the win while Bobby Tramondozzi chalked up his third save of the season in the seventh. Nate Witkowski (3-4) had two doubles and three RBI’s for the Chiefs. Graham Seed (2-2) suffered the loss.

On Thursday the Chiefs host the Expos at Maplewood (Malden Catholic) at 8:00 PM in the only ICL on the agenda.

Chiefs, Americans & Maddogs Gain Tuesday Wins

Blaise Cormier went 4 for 4, with three RBI’s, Andrew Caulfield added two doubles, and Gino DeSimone had two hits and an RBI, when the Andre Chiefs beat the Reading Bulldogs 4-2 at Austin Prep on Tuesday night. Lefty Jonathan Richard (1-0) allowed just three hits and struck out eight in six innings to get the win while Tommy Leone picked up his second save of the year in the seventh. Andrew Croteau had two hits, an RBI, and stole three bases for the Bulldogs. Connor Hewlette (0-2) took the loss.

Mike Sorrentino had two hits and three RBI’s and Bobby Losanno and Noah Jankowski both homered when the Americans won their fourth straight in a 9-4 score over Alibrandis at Victory Field in Watertown. Scott Searles added a couple of RBI’s for the Americans. Mike Andrews (2-0), in relief of Jason Giangrande, went 3.2 innings, allowing just one hit, to get his second win of the year. Jared Brooks (2-1) pitched the first 4.1 innings for Alibrandis and was tagged with the loss.

At Maplewood, the Malden Maddogs overcame a 3-1 second inning deficit and went on to edge the Lexington Blue Sox 4-3. Matt Tyman (1-2) was dominant on the mound for the Maddogs firing a complete game two-hitter while striking out eight. Tyman surrendered just one earned run on the way to his first win of the season. Logan Gillis (RBI) and Joe Klingensmith both had doubles. Henry Buttersfield III and Jared Beniers each drove in a run for Malden. Pat McGowan (2-1) look the loss for the Blue Sox.

On Wednesday, the Chiefs visit the Americans at Morelli Field in Melrose at 7:30 PM and the Blue Sox host the Middlesex Expos in Lexington at 8:00 PM.

Americans Take 16-8 Monday Win Over Maddogs

The first four batters in the lineup combined for 11 RBI’s when the Melrose Americans beat the Malden Maddogs 16-8 at Maplewood on Monday night. Bobby Losanno (2-5, double, triple, 3 RBI), Pat Costigan (3-3, double, 4 RBI), John Jennings (3-5, home run, double, 3 RBI) and Kyle Cortese (2-5, double, RBI), led the Americans at the plate. For Jennings it was his league leading fourth round-tripper of the season. Chris Mitchell (1-2) worked four innings, allowing just one run, to grab his first win of the year and Ronnie Luke and Jay Smith each tossed a scoreless frame for the Americans.

The Alibrandis-Blue Sox game in Lexington was rained out.

On Tuesday, the Andre Chiefs travel to Austin Prep to meet the Reading Bulldogs at 6:45 PN, the Americans visit Alibrandis at Victory Field in Watertown at 7:30 PM, and the Maddogs host the Blue Sox at Maplewood (Malden Catholic) at 7:45 PM.

Losanno Grand Slam Lead Americans to 5-3 Sunday Afternoon Win

Bobby Losanno’s grand slam in the bottom of the fourth inning led the way when the Melrose Americans held off the Lexington Blue Box 5-3 in a game played at Wakefield’s Walsh Field on Sunday afternoon. Greg Johnson (1-0) got the win. Cory Bright had a double, single, and drove in the fifth Melrose run. Josue Feliciano had had three hits, including a double, and knocked in a couple of runs for Lexington.

Both of Sunday’s later games (Middlesex at Reading & Malden at Andre) were postponed due to rain.

Monday’s Alibrandis-Lexington game at Lexington High has already been postponed as the heavy rain and wet fields continue to devastate the ICL schedule.

Middlesex Expos, Intercity League

D’Antuono’s 8th Inning Double Gives Expos 2-0 Win Over Alibrandis

Nick D’Antuono’s two RBI double in the top of the eighth inning broke up a scoreless tie and propelled the Middlesex Expos to a 2-0 win over Alibrandis at Victory Field in Watertown on Thursday night. Zach Kirby (4-1) struck out eleven to get the pitching win. Yolhandry Peres (0-1), who came on for Paul Frisoli in the top of the eighth, took the loss. Frisoli allowed just two hits and struck out 10 in his seven innings of work.

Both the Andre Chiefs at Lexington Blue Sox and the Reading Bulldogs at Malden Maddogs games were postponed due to rain.

Friday’s Reading Bulldogs at Middlesex Expos game, scheduled for Trum Field, has already been postponed due to Tropical Storm Elsa.

Melrose Americans

Jennings Homers Twice in Americans’ 9-4 Win

John Jennings hit two homers to lead the Americans to a 9-4 win over the Andre Chiefs in Melrose on Wednesday night. Jennings (3-4), Bobby Losanno (2-3, RBI), and Josh Bohn (2 RBI), helped the Americans erase a 3-0 Chiefs’ first inning lead. Colin Jaena (1-1) worked the first 4.1 innings to gain the win and Mike Andrews and Ronnie Luke combined on 2.2 innings of scoreless relief. Adam Johnson and Ryan Nonne each had two hits and a couple of RBI ‘s for the Chiefs. Graham Seed (2-1) suffered his first loss of the season.

On Thursday, Alibarndis host the Middlesex Expos at Victory Field in Watertown at 7:30 PM and the Chiefs travel to Lexington to meet the Blue Sox at 8:00 PM.

Bulldogs Edge Americans 3-2 at Austin Prep

Gabe Van Emon (2-1) threw six innings of five hit ball, and Jack Theriault got the seventh inning save, when the Reading Bulldogs edged the Melrose Americans 3-2 at Austin Prep on Tuesday evening. Andrew Croteau (2 hits), Joe Milar and Patrick Solomon drove in the Reading runs. Pat Costigan had two hits, including a double, and knocked in a run for the Americans. Brendan McSorly (0-1) struck out five in 4.2 innings but took the loss.

The Malden Maddogs-Lexington Blue Sox game was postponed due to heavy thunderstorms in Lexington.

On Wednesday, the Andre Chiefs visit the Americans at Morelli Field in Melrose at 7:30 PM in the only game on the ICL schedule.
